I'm Paul Sorensen along with Greg Talbert, who's filling in for Larry Weir, who's off doing some goofy little NCAA Midnight madness, that, you know, basketball thing that they get together to in the bubble. And joining us right now, it'd be kind of fun. We're actually finishing up the Rogers Pirates North Central Indian game right now, 119 to go in the fourth quarter. North Carolina is up 40 to 31. They have the football here and they're having a little cacophony of discussion down there on the field between the officials.

But I thought it'd be a good time to talk to John Barrington, who's the athletic director supreme and also the head of scheduling for football in the Greater Spokane League. But first of all, let's talk about the stadium. Beautiful setup combination between Mount Spokane and Mead School District came together, built an awesome setup. Tell us about the process, how that worked and how it's paying off right now for your student athletes. Well, it's paying off great for our student athletes, Paul.

Our kids are Grateful. Our coaches are more than grateful. It's been quite the process. It was not the most recent bond that passed but a few years ago. And so it's been on the books for a while.

And both Paul Kausman and Mount Spokane and myself had some input and watched the process all along. And we're just grateful. We're grateful to our taxpayers, our district folks for working on it. And yeah, it's a great place for high school football. You know, you look at the financial plan now for all the Greater Spokane League, Central Valley, the Valley schools all have brand new fields in terms of field turf.

Othello came in this year. You had a couple of, you know, shadow North Central. Rogers drop down to 2A bringing Othello. And there's eight, two, eight teams now, you know, in the league there's eight 3A and 4A teams. You know, from that standpoint, you, you did the scheduling for football, you had the, you know, kind of the pandemic thing going on.

How many different revisions did you have to go through before you finally got this thing right for a seven game league season? I'm pretty sure we quick counting a long time ago what version it was and it was a scramble, but really schools were cooperative, people understood. We got given a lot of grace when we have to make changes and reschedule. And through it all, I think it's turned out pretty good. Like I said, squeezing seven games in.

And yeah, I feel pretty lucky that, you know, one, that we're playing football and two, that it's worked out so far. Clarkston, Pullman, East Valley, West Valley, Cheney, Othello, North Central, Schadl and rogers at the 2A level and then of course the 3A 4As are your standard GSL teams that we all know. So you kind of split it up into two, which worked out great because you had eight and you had seven games. So you're going to have a true GSL champion at the 3A 4A level and also at the 2A level. But there's no postseason or state ramifications this year.

Nothing going on postseason this year, obviously with the squeezed schedule. And we're ending here actually in what, three weeks after this. And so it's gone fast for sure. And yeah, thank goodness Othello, you know, with the, the earlier guidelines where they were in a different region than the rest of their league. They were in our region, they joined and helped that balance.

So it worked out great. You know, sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, right. And you look out on the stands you have fans. Yeah. How great is that for the kids?

It's. It's great to hear the noise. You got cheerleaders actually cheering to people in the stands and just the reaction to the kids playing football. Tonight's been really good. Good to hear, good to see, you know, and it's.

You look at a process like this, you've already thanked the taxpayers and, you know, all the people that came into play. But how great now, for many, many years, basically up to this point, it was Albie Stadium. That was the home field for all the GSL teams, at least on the north side and city teams. From that standpoint, how cool is it to have your own stadium? Well, it's a different sense of pride, for sure.

We are super excited to host teams in here. Obviously, tonight we're hosting a couple of teams and couldn't be happier. But yeah, it's going to continue to grow. We're planning on having our graduation ceremonies here for both me and Mount Spokane High School. Just there'll be plenty of opportunities besides football and soccer taking place here.

And so that. That's really exciting. It's really a community gathering spot and tonight we're really getting the first taste of it with people coming in the stands. So that's really good. Well, and the other thing, too, you can look forward to, you know, all the other sports in level two, level three, in terms of different stages.

Basketball will be last, but you'll have some other games, baseball and those kinds of things coming up here after football season. How is that progressing? Well, I think pretty well. We just got our spring sport, our season two schedules. We're getting ready to put those into the.

Obviously starts here pretty soon. Looking forward to that. Not the typical spring weather that baseball coaches and softball coaches are used to, but that's actually a welcome, welcome change so. Well, final score NC beat. Beat the Rogers Pirates 40 to 30 run.

3 FM. Arby's Greater Spokane League Game of the Week for you tonight. The Ferris Saxons and the Mead Panthers on the way for week four of this abbreviated season with Paul Sorensen filling in for the great one, Larry Weird. My name is Greg Talbot. Happy to be sitting in with you tonight.

And even though both of these teams are off to a 1 and 2 start, there is a reason we chose this game tonight, and that's Paul, because both of these teams are kind of in development, but they have a lot of interesting things happening inside their programs. When you look at Ferris, they've been relying pretty heavily on a pair of transfers. Their new quarterback Paxton Page and new wide receiver Anthony Aguirre. They both came here together from Oregon City High School down near Portland. They've stepped into big roles.

And speaking of those receivers, the Saxons do not have a single receiver in their rotation who is shorter than 6 foot 3. So they are waiting for that passing attack to hit its stride and you got to think it will with another star like Jide Olajoygbe stepping up week after week. Mead, on the other hand, they've done well running the ball with the two headed monster they've got with Caleb Shawn and Nick Terrell. Both of those guys over 150 yards so far this year through three games. But their passing game, honestly ask their coaches, they'll tell you it needs some work.

They're having both freshman Joe Sonicson and sophomore Mitchell Holiday trade snaps. They're waiting for someone to really distinguish themselves, so we'll see if they can do that tonight. Ferris beat you high, but they lost to Central Valley and Mount Spokane. That was last week. And Meade has beaten Lewis and Clark with losses to Seavey as well and G Prep.

Either way, one of these teams is going to get their second win of the season tonight and we'll find out who. Coming up shortly, you will have Ferris and Mead on your radio. I thought Grape did a nice job of recapping and talking about some of the stuff that went on the Ferris. Saxons got a couple of transfers that come in on offense. They have a kid named DJ Romero in the middle.

His dad, you might remember, outstanding football player at Lewis and Clark, went to Eastern Washington, played in the CFL and the NFL. He's also in the Eastern Washington hall of Fame. Dario Romero. And they're pretty darn good up front. They're big and physical.

They just don't have a lot of depth. So this is a team that can't afford to have the injury bug. They've always had talented wide receivers, quarterbacks and running backs. They're trying to establish their identity right now. Tom, you're out.

The hall of Fame coach, in my opinion. Young man that played at Shadow park with Mark Rippon, went to Washington State, played football down there, did a great job. He won a state title at Lewis and Clark back in the day when he coached there, you know, for many, many years when they had Alex Shaw & Co. That was a really good football team. This is an offense that basically wants to run the ball, they want to smash Mafia, but if they're having problems doing that, they're going to throw it and they're going to try to establish, try to set the ball, maybe get some deep shots downfield.

Take advantage of a Mead secondary that's had some issues in terms of garnering, you know, stopping folks from the passing attack and with, you know, in terms of what Greg talked about, all those receivers of six, three, that's why they're also really good in basketball. They got some tall guys that are athletic. You got it, Paul. And you can see some of the things that they do. This is an athletic team and if they can get on a roll, they're very dangerous.

This is a very important game for both Ferris and Mead. They because they want to get to that second win here four games into a seven game season. Let's flip it over to the other side for the Mead Panthers. Benji Sainson, the head coach there has done a nice job. Very senior laden defense and offense.

Nine seniors on defense, eight seniors on offense and offense. We might see a lot of wildcat stuff going on. They're going to be switching quarterbacks between the freshman and the junior to see who gets the hot hand. And I've always was told that if you have two quarterbacks vying for the same spot, you really don't have a starter. And so somebody's got to come out of this group and separate themselves and establish themselves as a starter.

So unless they're completely different in terms of a dynamic, maybe one guy's a great passer, one guy's a great runner. We had that At Washington State with Ricky Turner, who was the runner, Cleet Casper, who's the passer. Now they have the run pass option where you can do all three things. So anyway, Mead's going to be physical, try not to give up, you know, the big play against the fair Saxons, try to stay out of trouble in terms of penalties and turnovers and, you know, grind out a game.

See if they can play physical up front and push this Ferris football team around, rely on their depth. I think this is going to be a whale of a football game and should be one that is going to go late in the fourth quarter before you know who's going to win it. I think you're exactly right about that, Paul. And like we said at the top of the broadcast, these are two programs that really are kind of in development. A couple of things I was also wondering about this game when we were talking to the Mead coaches a little bit earlier this week.

They said their secondary needs to focus because in both the Central Valley and Gonzaga prep games they let receivers get back over the top. And we know Ferris is trying to establish that new passing game. One or two over the top might break this game for Mead. So we'll see how it goes. Well, and sometimes you can play a little soft and you back off and then you give up the short stuff and they walk right down the field score.

So it's kind of pick your poison with these guys. You give up a one play, 60 yard touchdown. Do you give up a 10 play drive, you know, or do you come up and make some big plays, tighten down your defense, get some turnovers, do some things along those lines? We'll get a chance to find out. We'll come back.

Like I said, I was here for long enough before that. Deer park and Newport doing battle. Clarkston and Othello also. I was interested to hear, Paul, that Othello joined the GSL this year. They were in the district and it just worked out on the 2A level.

They're very good football team, a great program actually. And it helped balance that 2A level. So eight teams, seven games. It worked out perfect. Northwest Christian and Reardon also went off at 7 o'.

Clock. Freeman, Riverside as well and then West Valley and Shadow Park. That should be a pretty fun game as well. Yeah, it should be. All right.

This can be a good football game. The Mead Panthers are warming up on the field right now. So are the Fair Saxons. They're kind of going through their their pre game warm ups and getting a chance to kind of. The officials are meeting at about the 47 yard line talking about all the cool stuff that's going on.

They're the away team. Let's take a look at their starting 11 on offense, Josh Beaney under center, Brian Karunarotney at guard as well as Nathan DePaulo. He's a two way player for Them Paul really good on defense as well as is the tackle, DJ Romero and Noah Capellino. At the receiver spot, a couple of really tall dudes. Like we said, they're all 6 foot 3 or taller.

Anthony Aguirre, G Day Olajoy EGB and Dan Crumley. Alec Roland lines up at tight end. Cruz Wheeler is their big time running back, the sophomore, but he's very talented. And the transfer quarterback from Oregon City High School down near Portland, first year quarterback for them is Paxton Page. On the defensive side, Davian Walter lines up at the end alongside Preston newcomer Ryan Barry and Nathan Apollo.

At D tackle, a couple of linebackers that are really the run stoppers in their unit. Darian Riley, Logan Wagner and Charlie Markham. And at db they've given up a couple over the top this year. They got to work on that. That'll be Jacob Tanani, Johnny Tallarico, Mason Blackland and Gday Olajoy Egby who is a two way player, also plays safety.

Paul well they have several players that are doing that and you know, this is about the time you start getting in pretty good shape. Fourth game of the season for these teams. I had to play both ways in high school, junior college actually. And I remember the first game I had to do that, it almost killed me at halftime. I thought I was going to die because I was trying to go 100, you know percent the whole time.

You got to pace yourself. So the more two way players are, I think that kind of wears teams down a little bit. All right, so that is the Ferris starting 22. Now let's take a look at the Mead Panthers. They're the home team tonight, just like Ferris, 1 and 2 so far this season.

And let's take a look at their starting 11 offensive line. They've got TJ Anderson starting at center, Josh Huffman and Ryan Murbach at green guard, Spencer Lyman and J. T. connors on the outside of tackle. And they've got an interesting kind of extra offensive line.

They have two HBS column, Riley Ayala and Braden Smith. So they really go with seven up front traditionally at running back Caleb Shawn and Nick Terrell and at wide receiver Sam Winkheimer and Carson Tucker. But like we said off the top of the broadcast, they are having two guys share the reps at quarterback, the freshman Joe Sonicson and the sophomore Mitchell Holiday. So we'll see them kind of riding the hot hand and that's going to be the key. Which one of these quarterbacks can come out and establish themselves.

And that's Something that they've been battling, you know, through this first three games here. So really who's going to be, it's separation Friday night. Who's going to come in there and establish himself and take that job? Well now in the fourth week of the season, it's about time. Yes, I think and I think that's going to help your football team once you're selling on who's, who's a signal caller in this game.

So that's the mead starting 11. Let's take a look at their defense now. Defensive tackle Brendan Devaney. In Braden York. Spencer Lyman, another two way player.

He lines up a defensive end as does Chris Prince. Caleb Shawn is one of their amazing, really terrific running backs as part of that two headed monster two way player. He is going to be a linebacker. He's really phenomenal. Parko Starton and Riley Ayala.

Other linebackers, Calvin Word in Oyongo Apieu at cornerback and Preston Egan and Lane Lorenz at safety. Well, that's going to be a good, good test for this meet. I think both of these teams kind of match up really well and you've got two excellent coaches and Benji Songson and of course we talked about. Tom, you're out. As you know, two guys that have been around that have had a lot of success, a lot of victories, they're good at game planning and I think you're going to see them try to attack each other in the way that hurts the most.

I really do think that a lot of people when they saw we were doing this game tonight, Paul, they might say why are you here? I'll tell you what, I think this is a one score game. I really do. I agree with you. We're going to take a time out and that's it for our pregame.

Mead is back to receive on the right side of the field, looking at your radio dial and the Fair Saxons in white with red lettering on the left side of the field. They're getting ready to kick this one away from the 40 yard line. It is in the air in Greater Spokane. League football is on the air tonight. Calvin Word back to receive for me from the 20 yard line.

He splits a couple of defenders. He's past the 50 and on the first kick of the game, gets down into Ferris territory. Nice job that time. Just a wedge right up the middle. Excellent blocking there.

You know, Ferris had to finally come over and knock down the young man. I think it was number 40. Of course, he's not on our Ferris lineup here, but he was the one that made the tackle and saved the touchdown. But a good wedge block right up the middle created some nice space. Mead's going to have excellent starting position here.

Inside Ferris 50. All right, so the Mead Panthers, one and two on the season, out to start their first drive of the game. They're going right to left across your radio dial in their navy jerseys, white helmets and white pants. Joe Sonicson, the freshman quarterback to take snaps five yards back from the line of scrimmage. He receives the snap, fakes a handoff, goes three yards up the middle, falls forward for a gain of five yards.

That'll bring up second down and five we will also be seeing the sophomore quarterback, Mitchell Holiday taking snaps, you know, and I like that you're going to rotate a couple of guys and they might rotate them every play, might be every series. You just, you know, it's going to be interesting to see what's going on, you know, along those lines. Just a nice little draw right up the middle that time. Good blocking on the right side there. Picks up a nice five yard game.

Second and five and they send the senior running back, Caleb Shawn into the huddle. We'll be seeing him a lot tonight along with the other senior running back, Nick Terrell. All right, second down at five, coming up for Mead. One receiver split out to each side with Sean there in the backfield alongside Sonics and low snap, he'll kick the quarterback keeper goes straight up the middle between the tackles again, picks up a gain of two, this time bringing up a manageable third down and three.

You know, that's what you want. You want to move the sticks, you want to make it manageable. We saw Rogers in the first game, go for it on every single fourth down play. Makes sense. You average three yards a carry, you get 12 yards, you get a first down.

So you're trying to see me manage this game. Trying to get positive yards in each down. They've done that so far. Sonic's at under center, no receivers out wide. Pistol formation.

They turn in the pitch to Nick Terrell coming along the left side. He's past the 40, past the 30. Couple Ferris guys chasing him down inside the 20, down the left sideline, down to the 10 for a huge first down, a gain of nearly 30 yards. And here comes Mead into the Ferris red zone on the first drive of the game. Well, that was just a nice job.

It looked like they had Ferris stacked, you know, in the line of scrimmage between the tackles there. They just did a pitch to the left side, got outside. Excellent block by the wide receiver. He's able to get around the corner, pick up a great, great yardage there. All the way down the 11 yard line.

First down. Nice third down conversion for Meade. And now we see the sophomore quarterback Mitchell Holiday coming out under the shotgun here. Back from the 15 yard line and Mead's got the ball between the 10 and the 11. One receiver out each way with a couple of extra alignment.

It's a direct snap and here it comes around the left side, met around the line of scrimmage. Staggers backward inside the 10 yard line, down to the 6 or the 7. Darian Riley was the Young linebacker on the tackle there, the senior. This is a defense at Ferris. It has seven seniors as well.

Two, four, six seniors on offense, seven on. So these are two football teams that are senior base and a pretty big defensive line there in the white jerseys. Paul? Yeah, they've got some girth up there, but they just don't have a lot of depth. But their, their front line guys are very talented, so it'll be, it'll be a good contest and it's going to be a battle of attrition tonight.

All right, Terrell there in the backfield. Sonic's in at quarterback, sends a man in motion, right to left, turns and hands to Terrell. He bashes his way down inside the five yard line, tries to fall forward. He's not going to quite get there. This is going to be a crucial man.

Maybe third down and one. Third down and two from the one yard line. Nope, the referees are actually going to say that he got it by a half yard. So first down and goal between the one and the two and this been a good drive as well. Remember, great kickoff return.

You're only going half the field here. But they're doing a nice job of managing the clock, keeping the ball on the ground. They've run every play here and, and they're getting positive yards every time they touch the football. Caleb, Sean comes back out. He is at the bottom of the eye formation with Sonicson under center left.

Hash mark from the one yard line. Me trying to punch it in on their first score of the game. Turns and hands off to Sean. He's met in the backfield, but he drags the defender with him back to the one yard line. I don't think he got to the goal line.

It'll be second and goal. Good stand there by Ferris. Yeah, I think that was Dario Romero, you know, on the inside that came in. He usually plays a lot on offense, but that time he came over. Actually that was Nathan DePaulo as well.

Both of those guys were in on the tackle. Did a nice job defeating the guard block up front. Was able to get some penetration and knock him down. Clock continues to run. 835 to go here in the first quarter.

All right back from the one yard line. That goes second down and goal. Caleb. Shot in the backfield guy to imagine they might feed him again. Instead it's a direct snap to Sonics in the quarterback.

He dives forward past the line and he's in for a touchdown. Mead up six, six nothing with the score on their first drive of the game. Very nice drive. 48 yards that time. Doing an excellent job of getting down the field, you know, and, and all on the ground.

So they, they found kind of what they're looking for, trying to get some consistency running the football. And I know Ferris would like to kind of clean that up a little bit on the defense. They let him go. 47 yards in that drive and it's six nothing right now. Mead.

Here's Carson Tucker in for the Pat Rather. Spencer Elliott. My mistake. And we have a whistle and a flag as the play was getting ready and set up here. No actual penalty on the play.

Don't know what that was about. All right, we'll go take two here as Mead tries to make it seven nothing. Low snap. Elliott got it good. Seven nothing.

Let's take a look at our Damon orthodontic rather. Our STCU score update. That was a seven play drive, went about 48 yards. They did get the benefit of good field position, Paul. And they did on the kickoff and you know this is a three feature group.

Special teams are key, offense and defense are key. And right now Meade is when the special teams battle on that first drive with that excellent kick return pass midfield and the offense took it right down the field. You know as you mentioned in seven plays going 48 yards Sonics and third touchdown run of the season. Nice job that time and very effective drive. They did a nice job.

I thought so. 825 to go here in the first quarter from Union Stadium in Mead and the home Panthers up on The Ferris Saxons 7 Nothing. Kicking right to left across your radio dial. Ola Joyegbi and Cruz Wheeler back to receive for Ferris and Ola Joyegbi takes it from the 10. He beats a couple of guys, he's past the 30 yard line now, gets between the hashes, dives up to the 37 yard line.

We are going to hear the name G day Olajoy Egby a lot tonight Paul and you're going to pronounce it and that was just a great job by the way. And I watched a lot of that this week. You know it's like that and working the poly names you got to pronounce every single volume and it's crazy. But he did a nice job that time. Came from the right hash kind of serpentine to the left side.

He was one guy away from taking that to the house. A very nice return getting it up all the way to the 37 yard line. All right, so Ferris comes out from the left side of the fields 35 yard line there in their white uniforms which with red trim and silver helmets Tonight Paxton Page, the junior quarterback out of the shotgun turns and hands it off to Cruise Wheeler, the sophomore running back.

He bounces to the left side and is met at the line of scrimmage for no gain. Wheeler's going to be a nice little star in this league. He runs the ball really hard, hits the hole well, you know, doing a nice job Mead. Also you talked about the size of Ferris defensive front. Meade has some big ends up there as well and they also have an excellent linebacking crew.

This team is going to get tested deep. So how are those four defensive backs going to going to hold up under this Ferris passing attack? And that running back, Cruz Wheeler, just a sophomore, he was an all GSL linebacker as a freshman last year. They don't want to overtire him. So he's just playing running back this year.

No gain on the play. Second and 10 Two receivers near side for Ferris, one to the far side. Paxton Page takes the snap, throws a bullet over the middle for a gain of 10 yards and more. It's hauled in down the far side by Anthony Aguirre. Anthony Aguirre transferred with the quarterback Paxton Page.

Paul, they were both at Oregon City High School in Portland. They came here together. No surprise that they're bringing that chemistry with them. Well, that's the first time I've seen both of these guys and I really like Paxton Page. His release was excellent.

He looked right, came back to the left side, hit the slant, hit him right in the hands. And that's a guy that you can tell they have caught the football and received the football many times together. That's a nice connection. I like those two. Alright, Crews Wheeler there in the backfield alongside paxton page.

New first and 10 from the 50 yard line. Turns and hands off to Wheeler. He splits a couple of tackles, gain of 4 yards as he dives up the middle. We were talking to the coaches this week, Paul, about Cruz Wheeler. They could not stop talking about the great vision he has as a running back.

And they're a zone running team. If you run zone you need to have that vision well. And he's a one cut guy. He plants that right foot, he gets upfield and then he looks for that linebacker to either cut against, either inside or outside. He plants that foot and goes.

And that's what I like, a running back, an offensive lineman. Love them. They don't have to hold the blocks that long. They can stay there, maintain their block and go. All right, shallow shotgun here for Paxton Page.

Five yards back, the line of scrimmage. They got it up to the 46 yard line. Driving left to right, Decent snap. It's a screenplay. Throws it back to the middle.

And it's intercepted at the 45 yard line by Meade as it was thrown behind his wide receiver. Trying to get a look at who that is. That is Caleb Sean. They talked about him as a halfback and what a stud at linebacker with the interception there, Paul. Well that was just a tip ball.

They had the play they wanted. They caught me in a blitz. They had a screen center screen set up big time. But I think that ball might have got tipped and it went behind the receiver. And then you saw him come in, a great job of making that play.

And that young two way player there, boy, that was a big interception. And this could be a turning point here, you know, in terms of separating. 622 to go. They're already up 7 to nothing. Pressures on the Ferris defense to try to get some kind of stop.

All right, so Mead takes over on their own side of the 50 yard line. They're taking over their own three receivers split to the top of the field, one to the bottom. Mead leading seven nothing in their navy uniforms. Sonics in out of the shotgun. Not a lot of pressure as he looks downfield.

He's going for a home run. Into coverage. Caught at the 20 yard line. And it's hauled in by Carson Tucker, their leading receiver on the season. That is his sixth catch.

And now Paul, that puts him up about 125 yards. Boy, that was just a nice throw. Just a post. They were in man coverage. They're going to go.

Hurry up here. Caught. Caught Ferris and man, and that was just a nice play, man. All the way down to about the 19 yard line of the Ferris Saxons. And again they come out in the spread.

Three receivers split right, one to the left with Caleb Shawn in the backfield. And Ferris looks a little bit caught off guard. Sonics in out of the gun. Looks right, looks left, throws far side. That's hauled in by Sam Winkheimer.

His first reception of the night. He's down to the 11 yard line. Call it. That'll bring up second down and maybe four yards and we camer's an outstanding player. He's been, you know, starting on the varsity since his sophomore year.

Also an excellent Hooper as well. And you're seeing a lot of multiple, you know, athletes here, which I think it's great, that really helps. But not only can he play basketball, he can also catch the ball. He's got that basketball wingspan, six foot three. Yeah.

Shoot, I wish I had a body like that. I got stuck with short and squatty. Me too. Second down and five from the Ferris 11 yard line for me to iformation they pitched the near side and Nick Terrell goes down for a man. Maybe got back to the line of scrimmage, but maybe not.

As he went left and Ferris D line was there to meet him. Yeah, that was an excellent job on the outside by the Saxons. I think they had that. That was Ryan Berry, the defensive end or D tackle Little junior He kind of slid up there. He's tall and gangly, but he did a nice job of defeating the block.

Getting in the backfield, forcing the running back to cut back, which is where all his buddies were. And they made the tackle. Five minutes to go in the first quarter. Mead on top of Ferris seven nothing and looking to make it another touchdown lead. Here They've got it.

Third down and five from the Ferris 11 yard line. Two receivers split out to the right. Soneksen goes under center, turns, fakes a handoff play action back to the end zone, back left corner, caught for a Mead touchdown. And it's hauled in by Carson Tucker. They went to him on the 40 yard pass, Paul.

And they do it again. Wide open in the back left corner of the end zone. Nice job by Sonnichin that time. The freshman, he looked to the right side. They had a crossing route going.

Kind of the inside receiver ran a vertical crossing route to the left pylon. He threw that ball out there. Just got kind of tippy toed towards the back of the end zone. Got both feet in there for the touchdown. Nice job.

A 66 yard drive on just five plays. That is your STCU scoreboard update. Not bad Paul. That was pretty efficient. That was very efficient.

And they got the on the interception. Let's give credit where credit is due. That was just a great job picking the ball off, giving their offense short field. True story. Here comes the PAT attempt from LJ Harm.

And Ferris comes back out. Paul all of a sudden down 14, nothing quick off an interception. Well, they need to score here because you know, that interception was great job in terms of setting that thing up there and just an awesome job defensively, you know, getting the interception, allowing me to have short field possession.

They've had two possessions now inside the 50. All right, so Farris takes over from the 20 yard line after the kick went out of the back of the end zone from Meadow Paxton. Page, the quarterback turns his hands off to cruise a Wheeler out of the shotgun. He dodges left, dodges right, falls forward for a gain of about three yards. That'll bring up second down and seven.

Cruz Wheeler, really the focal point of their offense. It really is because they want to establish the run. They had an outstanding run game last year which set up the play action pass, you know, and again that's kind of a staple affair. So they like to, you know, throw it all over the ballpark. But they're going to establish a run first.

They're going to make you play run and then have to defend that play action. And that's, you know, if you got a quarterback which, which they do have now, I think that's going to be an outstanding offense for them. Ferris lines up after a gain of three yards. Call it. Second down and seven is Pages directing his wide receivers to split to the left side, one split to the right.

Wheeler behind him in the backfield. Loose pressure being played on the defensive side here by Meade is Paige. Takes the snap, goes nowhere. He's rolling out to the near side. He lets go of that ball.

I can't tell if that was actually intended for someone or not as he kind of did a little bit of a rainbow basketball throw. He was evading pressure as it was coming from his backside. Incomplete pass. Third and seven. That was Anthony Aguirre who ran a slant initially and then that was covered and then he broke the rod off and tried to bend back.

And I think that was a little backyard, you know, school ball action there, you know, and they would have had a penalty because you had three offensive linemen at about seven yards downfield. So, you know, if they complete that thing, I think they're going to bring it back anyway. Legal man downfield Third down and seven. This is big, they need to convert here. This is huge.

Ferris down 14, nothing to meet already. Third down and seven from their own 20 yard line. Two receivers out to the left, one far to the right. Let's see what the junior quarterback Paxton Page can do. High snap, he's looking left, not a lot of space there in zone.

Defensive coverage. He rolls to his right down the sideline. He's got a man open and he overthrew his receiver wide open in the middle of the field. He had G day Olajoyegbi and he couldn't find him. He also had on the backside, number four was wide open.

That was Johnny Talarico. He just didn't see him. He was focused on the right side and on the backside. His post was wide open. If he's able to see him, that's a touchdown.

Now they're gonna have to give the ball back. And the the Me Panther offense has scored two straight scores. So that was not what Ferris wanted on the incompletion. Not even close. So Ferris will punt here.

The punter, Mason Buckland back around his own 10 yard line. He's punting left or right across your radio dial. But that snap is over his head. It's into the end zone. Here comes the Mead defense.

That ball is loose on the goal line. Mead has their hands in the air. They're saying it's a touchdown. We'll wait to see what the referees say here. Safety down on the goal line.

Think that's a safety? The referees are going with a safety. So 16 nothing. Mead as a high snap over the head of Buckland really, really costs Ferris. We talk about special teams and that doesn't always get the credit it deserves.

You look at what Mead did. They have an excellent return on the first kickoff, inside the 50, sets up a touchdown drive. They come back at a defensive stop on an interception. Turn the ball over and then special teams ball snaps over the punters head goes into the end zone. Nearly a touchdown.

Still you're going to have a safety. Mead's up 16 nothing and Ferris has got to punt the ball back now to the Mead offense that has had two straight scoring drives. So yeesh, you're winning all three aspects of this game right now and on the scoreboard. True story. And Paul, you know we were talking to the Ferris coaches this week.

They said that they needed to be better early on because when you Talked about their two losses to Central Valley and then last week to Mount Spokane, they fell behind 14 nothing in both games. And they said we eventually hung on, but we want to be better early on. Not so much this week. Two of the better teams though that they've lost to, so you know, they're a little hard on themselves, but they have expectation both at Ferris and Mead of being good and competing and winning championships and how they were playing early.

They competed well, very well actually against Gonzaga Prep. You know, that game was a final possession type game and just couldn't pull it out. Mount Spokane has shown that they can play with anybody. Would not be surprised that they come out and beat Central Valley tonight. But now the defense has to go back out and you're down 16 to nothing, 334 to go here in the first quarter.

This is a nightmare first quarter right now for the Fair Saxons. This is about as bad as it gets and they've lost it on, on every side of the ball unfortunately for them. All right, back to kick from their own 20 yard line, left to right across your radio dial. Mead back to receive. That ball bounces around the 35 yard line and they run it up along the far side, cutting back toward the middle.

That's Colby Price, one of their great two way players. He's across the 50, down toward the 40 yard line of Ferris. Man, I kind of think they might want to time out here, Paul, and they've got to figure something out. But their special teams are getting gashed right now. Me takes over at the Ferris 36 yard line on the left side of your radio dial. Caleb Shawn, one of the running backs actually in there to take a direct snap. They're on the wildcat formation there. That's a gain of 5 yards. Takes a couple of defenders in white jerseys with him.

He actually turns that into a gain along the left hash mark of maybe nine yards. Very impressive yards after contact. Actually he did a great job, carried, you know, a couple of sacks of and defenders and he actually got the first down. So that's your Damon Orthodontics first down here and they've done a really nice job. They're moving lickety split down the field and I would say the referee has given him a couple generous spots close to those.

Damon, first down, Paul yes, sir. All right. Interesting bunch formation here. Sonics in, back in at quarterback. He swings and hands it off to Calvin Ward along the left side.

Yay. Let's talk about that. Actually, Paul, while we have a second here on the field with a timeout, finally into phase three here in Washington, this is the first time in what, 18 months we've had fans in the stands for high school football.

Well, and you know the sad part, you're only getting seven games in. But that's all I had my senior year. We had a teacher strike down in California in the east bay and lost 10. You know, we lost three games because we didn't start school until that first week in October. So I can relate a little bit to the pain.

But hey, you get to play, play. It's cool. All right, 16 nothing. Lead for Mead here in the first quarter. Sonics in, takes the snap from the Ferris 40 yard line.

He rolls out, throws to the far side. That one's intercepted. Down at the 15 yard line. Big takeaway for Ferris. It's Jacob Tenant, the senior db.

And it's great because he has an outstanding legacy. It looks like legal man downfield, but that's okay, they're going to decline that because Ferris is getting the ball back. Jordan Tanani played on the 2010 state championship team with my son. He was the corner. My son was a safety.

They went over and beat Skyline after getting thumped the year before in the state championship game. Came back a little, you know, little dust up. He went off to Eastern Washington and was an outstanding football player. He was a freshman All American. You know, his freshman year unfortunately had some concussion issues and had to retire.

But that's a really good legacy the Tanani family has done a great job over. So for the meat offense, the freshman quarterback Joe Sonics in. One rushing touchdown, one passing touchdown and now an interception. Freshman quarterback giveth. The freshman quarterback taketh away.

So Ferris gets it back from their own 17 yard line going left to right in their white jerseys. Page takes the handoff, rather gives it to Wheeler on the left side. He's dropped in the backfield for no gain on the play. Parker starting the linebacker, took him down. That was a nice job.

They brought basically an A gap lit. Both linebackers shot the gap between the center on either side. So he's got to pick one guy to block. He's not going to be able to get the other guy. And that young man was able to slide through there doing a great job.

No place for Wheeler to go. He basically was nailed in the backfield. And I've been impressed by this mead front seven. They have really kind of controlled here in this first quarter. 220 to go here in this first quarter.

They've controlled the line of scrimmage. Mead prides itself on its front seven. On defense, really over the top is where they've gotten beaten this year. But they're not having time to throw. That's right, that makes it difference.

Second down and 13 for Ferris. Paxton Page way deep in the shotgun, back around his own 10 yard line. He throws to the near side. That one to his old high school teammate from Oregon City, Anthony Aguirre. That one looks like it might have bounced off his hands.

Incomplete. Actually. We'll see what the referees say about that around the 17. Well, I think they're going to give it to him. He just.

That was a bad throw because that's just a little curl route. He goes down about 5, 6 yards and turns around. He had to kind of dive back to the left to catch that ball. No chance to pick up any positive yards because he's got to go down low, pull that ball off the ground. So that's going to be one he's going to.

Paxton is going to look at and say, I got to do a better job. Hit him in the chest, give him a chance to run. They're going to give him a complete pass there. So now they're looking from their own 18 yard line at a third down and nine. They're going to go to the air here.

And Mead has had trouble defending of the past here, so we'll see what they do. Page out of the gun. Cruz Wheeler standing behind him surveys the field. Two receivers split each way and a flag comes in from the thigh side. Referees, that's going to be a delay game.

And those are the kind of penalties that drive coaches nuts. You've got to be able to see that you got the clock in either end zone. It's pretty easy to see he's got to get up there, go quickly, make his checks and get that ball snapped. Because now you were in jeopardy at third and nine. Now you're at third and 14.

I think there are three Mead coaches that were also out there on him. He was, you know, he looked like Custer at the Battle of Little Bighorn. He was pretty well surrounded. No chance on that deal and how with the Me defense. Turnover.

Interception by Tanani. Gets the ball back. Looks like Ferris has momentum. Three and out They've got to punt the ball and they went backwards. And this was interesting.

Remember the last time they snapped, it went over his head. Yeah. Last time Ferris punted, it went over for a safety. So let's see what Mason Blackland can do here. Ball on the 11 yard line.

Snapping back to the end zone. He's got it this time. Gets this one in the air. It's a spiraling kick down to the 40 yard line. It is recovered by Calvin Word.

He runs it right to left, back to the 30 yard line, sprinting toward the 25. Flags come flying in from all sides around the 20. Good return. That one might be coming back though with all those flags on the field, Paul. They might get a discount with all the hankies that that ended up on the ground there.

That was, that was pretty crazy from that standpoint. And obviously you've got a Ferris player down on the ground as well, but that's going to go back 10 or 15 yards depending on the severity of the play. Well, this has been an awfully breakneck pace of a first quarter so far. One minute left to go here. Sixteen nothing.

Mead on top of Ferri. What a great quarter for me. I mean, I have to feel really good about this thing. And probably all the better for Ferris because they might have gotten beat on a deep home run there if Mead had a wide receiver out wide. Hey, Larry Weir was very nice to me when I was younger as a young broadcaster and I only thought it right to repay the favor by picking Eastern in my bracket. Fair enough. From the 40 yard line, turn of the give to Nick Terrell as he scrampers across the 40 yard line down to the 37, 38 for a gain of four and that'll take us down inside 50 seconds, 16 nothing lead here for meat on top of Ferris and probably one more play here in the first quarter.

Well, if you're Benji Saunderson, you have to feel really good about how Meade came out tonight and established the line of scrimmage. They have won all three aspects. They dominated on defense. They've got an interception that set up a touchdown return. They've had great returns and both Kickoffs and punts that have given this defense or offense short field.

And the offense is converted with two touchdowns. Defense gets the other score with it with the safety. Second down at 8i formation here for Mead. One receiver split out to each side. 23 seconds to go in the quarter.

Sonicson goes under center. Second down and eight surveys the defense, sends a man in motion. He drops back and throws a home run to the right side of the field. That one's gonna fall incomplete. But the receiver and the corner were shoving each other.

That's gonna be pass interference. Only question Paul is which team it's on. Well, both guys were hand fighting. He had Tanani on one side. He had the wide receiver.

You know, I think that was, I'm trying to figure out who that was over there. That was Carson Tucker who already has a touchdown catch and that's a good battle. Those are, that's their best cover guy for Ferris and probably one of their best receivers between, you know, Weichenheim and Tucker and I think that's going to be on the defense. The defense always gets nailed. They're not going to, they're not going to pummel the wide receiver.

They're going to go after the db. So that's why you got to be tough and have some thickness. But again if that was college or the pros that have been an uncatchable ball because that thing was air mail by about 15 yards because he was held for about 15 yards too. So unfortunately that's going to be an automatic first down. Your Damon Orthodontics first down.

All right, 12 seconds to go here in the first quarter. Me down to the maybe. Well interesting formation here with a couple of backs offset to the left and two receivers split out to the right. Sonic's in under center from the 20 yard line. 12 seconds to go in the quarter.

Mead Panthers on top of the Ferris Saxons. 16 nothing and they're trying to even go up more. They are over on offense now in the Ferris side of the field. They're driving left to right across your radio dial. Three backs in the backfield for Joe Sonicson, the freshman quarterback.

He turns and hands off to Calvin Ward on his sweet play to the left. He gets the edge along the sideline, picks up a gain of two or three yards as he's run out of bounds along the far sideline. Man, can you believe Paul? We thought this game was going to be so close, but meade dominated the first quarter. They're in danger of going up more than 20 points on Ferris here.

Well, and you have to give the offensive line and the defensive line. This game, in my opinion, has been one of the trenches. Because Mead's controlled both sides of the ball, they've been able to open up holes for the running back. Sonnenchen's had himself a nice game. A couple of big pass plays down the field.

On the defensive side they're harassing Ferris both their rushing attack and passing attack, not giving the quarterback any chance to throw. Alright, call it a gain of five yards. So third down and four here and flags and whistles coming in from the near side referees. If we got timeout, well we could take a timeout. We can take a timeout.

He threw it to the outside allowing the receiver to kind of adjust and this has been a good drive, kind of short, quick passing attacks. Another Damon Orthodontics first down and they have it on the eight yard line. This offense right now has been very impressive in my opinion and I think they've gotten Ferris caught him by surprise with this new formation that they have.

And now they come out in a more traditional spread formation. Caleb Shawn in the backfield next to the freshman quarterback, Joe Sonicson. First down and goal from the nine, throw to the far side. Nick Braun, the first time they've targeted him tonight. Looks like he got his hand on the ball down around the eight yard line.

Question is, did he hang on to it? I don't think he did. I think he broken up. That was. That was Tanani again doing a nice job.

Jacob was over there, but the safety also came over. I think that was Blackland that came in there and delivered a blow and he hit both Tanani and the wide receiver at the same time and knocked them all down. He didn't take any chances. He blew everybody up. Yeah, they are going to call that one an incomplete pass.

So second down and goal from between the 8 and 9 yard line and now they come out in an I formation. Sonic's in under center. Sean there in the backfield with him. They send him motion, they pitch left to right. Here it goes around the 10 yard line and the fairest defense there to meet him.

Really, really heads up play by the linebackers there, Paul. They did not bite. That was a nice job by Wagner, Riley and Marcum that all three of those guys filled. I think Marcum kind of gave himself up. He took the lead back on and took him out.

And the other two guys came over and had excellent pursuit there. This is a big play for the defense. If they can hold the Panthers to a field goal here, that's mission accomplished. They've done their job. 16 nothing.

Mead on top of Ferris. 10:46 to go until halftime. In me knocking on the door again. Third down and goal from the nine yard line on the right side of the field. That's Sean in the backfield.

Sonics in under center and it looks like we have another timeout here. Looks like Mead. I think Paul wants to draw up a big play. Well I think that they had the formation they wanted but didn't like the defense they saw. That one knocked down, incomplete. That was a big stop for the Ferris defense the last couple of plays and this is probably a field goal situation now for the Panthers time that time I like what they did. They blitzed. Logan Wagner was the guy, he blitzed right up the middle. He was the one putting pressure on Sonics and he had to just kind of roll back.

He kept giving ground and really had no place to go. Excellent coverage downfield. This was a victory for the Ferris defense. Keeping me out of the end zone and forcing them to a field goal. All right, so L.

J. harm, the junior kicker and wide receiver in to try to make this a 19 nothing game for me. They're up 16. He's a left footed kicker. So as whatever the southpaw equivalent of a foot is, he gets that one up, it is straight through a real line drive.

Oh, he missed it. Oh, he missed it. Off to the right. One of the referees actually started to put his hands up. I think they had a little confusion.

I think it was the same guy who was down at the Idaho Eastern Washington game that was adjusting his mask. But one. Is that just me or did he have his hands up? The guy on the left had his hands up. The guy on the right waved it off and that was.

So they're not going to give him that field goal and. And Ferris gets out of there with no field goal. Still 16 to nothing. I think he was doing the Eastern Idaho. He was.

I don't think he saw it. Wow. All right. That's crazy. That's unfortunate.

Well, either way. Well, he'll be in the PAC12 next year then. Get him, Paul. Sorry. Get him to take one shot.

Get him, King. Sixteen nothing. So Ferris down. They're back on offense on the right side of the field. They're trying to get this going tonight is Paxton Page.

Hands off to Cruise Wheeler along the right side. He bounces off, bounces off one of the tackles. He scampers up for a gain of maybe 8 or 9 yards past the 28 to the 30 yard line. I think they're going to bring that back. He got a hold on the wide receiver over about the 22 yard line, unfortunately.

And that's the thing that's hurt Ferris. They have a decent play, get a turnover. They have a decent play, get a penalty. Those are the kinds of things that kills an offense because you can't get any consistency when you're going that way. Especially because when we were talking to their coaches this week, Paul, you and I, they reiterated over and over again just how new this varsity squad is for them.

Not a lot of returners, right? No, I agree with that. And you have to build confidence. The only way to build confidence is have success and just takes one guy to break down in that group of 11. So that's the thing that makes it tough.

You got a hole, they're gonna move it back. But you still get first down. But unfortunately it's about 19. Yep, first down at about 20 yards here. Push back to their own 11 yard line.

Ferris and White on offense, Mead on Navy on defense. Driving right to left across your radio dial. Three receivers split to the near side for Paxton Page. He turns and hands off out of the shotgun to Cruise Wheeler. He turns on the jets to around the 15 yard line.

Taken down by the ankles for a gain of about five yards. Second down and 15. Yeah, but Wheeler's one, you know, broken tackle away from making a big play. He's got very good speed. He's tough, he runs low, you know, and he's only a sophomore.

I mean, you, you talked about how good he was last year as a freshman. This is a guy, you know, who can come out of high school and be a four year starter. You don't see a lot of those. That's impressive. And he's been very good this year already coming into this game.

150 just last week, 115 yards. Yeah. All right, so second down, they gave him an extra couple yards on that play. So call at second down and 13 here for Ferris. 935 to go in the first half.

Page turns, hands off to Wheeler. Actually, no, he kept that on play action. He rolled out to the far side and he was dropped by a couple of linebackers who did not bite on the far side. Loss on the play. Third down and long coming up.

I think if he had handed that ball off to Wheeler, there was a nice hole on the left side. I think that was a RPO and he just misread it. That should have been a handoff. Wheeler would have had some positive yards. He breaks a tackle, maybe a big play.

And you also can't blame the quarterback, Paxton Page because he's only been part of this system for five. Think about that. Yeah, but he's only a junior too, isn't he? So he's going to be around and I like him. He's got, he's got a nice arm.

You can see his leadership skills. This kid can play. All right, third down and call it 15 yards from inside. Their own 15. Good snap to Page.

And flags and whistles. Yeah. Tight end left a little bit early. That's going to be another penalty that's going to be against Ferris. Are going to move that back five yards and again, couple yards forward, couple yards backwards.

You keep shooting your toe off, that's going to get you in trouble. You just keep putting yourself behind the sticks. You're playing right into the Mead Panther defense. That's what they want. Try to throw the ball up field, sit back as a defensive back, make the pick, make a big play.

Give yourself a chance. What we're seeing here, Ferris has talent on offense. They are just sloppy getting off the line. It's just timing. They haven't had the time together to really come together like they should.

Third down and 22. Paxton page the quarterback back inside his own five yard line. It's a screenplay. He's in the end zone, he throws back to the line of scrimmage and missed his wide receiver. He had Ola Joyegbi coming across the middle.

Overshot. Fourth down and 22. They're going to punt from inside the 10. But that play was blown up from the get go one. It was a bad snap, he had to go to his left, kind of bobbled it and that really messed up the timing so he dropped back and then all of a sudden there was a me defender right in his face.

He kept backpedaling, went all the way back into the end zone and just threw it out there. Very dangerous pass fortunately kind of hit at the feet of the fair Saxon receiver. Alright, so Mason Buckland for the third time this first half. This poor kid has to punt from inside his end zone. This ball is on the 10 yard line.

Another low snap. That one's on the ground, is able to recover. Gets that one in the air. Back to the almost midfield mark. Very good punt actually that takes a slight Ferris bounce that'll roll to their own 48 yard line.

It seems like this first half has been the entire game has been played inside the Ferris 50. Yeah, you know when you look at the opening kickoff, the interception that set up, you know, a touchdown. The opening kickoff set up a touchdown and then there was another play and a nice punt return that set up a snap over the fair Saxon. You know punters head for a safety this game and exactly what Mead wants. They basically have cut this game in half because it's been a midfield game for them the entire game so far.

So the Mead Panthers and the Ferris Saxons both 1 and 2 this season and Mead on top of Ferris 16 nothing. 8, 21 to go here in the first half they do take over in Ferris territory with the freshman quarterback Joe Sonicson under center. One receiver split out each way and his running back Caleb Shawn in the backfield. From the Ferris 48 he turns and pitches to Sean, he turns up field flags come in from both sides After a gain of maybe a yard. Well that's interesting.

Wonder if they've got enough guys. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. Boy, we've got a legal participation. So what you get with only 5 weeks of prep? No just or motion penalty.

Maybe somebody wasn't set, they didn't have enough guys online. It's scrimmage. Nope. Emotion penalty. It's Five yards.

So that the second penalty against Mead, you know, and that gives the Ferris defense a little bit of a break here. So it's been impressive. I've been impressed by this new offense that, that Mead has shown. They've kind of scrapped what they've done and they've changed it up and they caught, they caught the Ferris defense a little unaware. You and I were talking to the Mead coaches this week and they said they need more balance on offense because they were not happy with how they've had to rely almost exclusively on the run so far this season.

And their passing game that I've been pretty darn good. It's been pretty darn good. And that's opened up the rushing attack too. They've been very good on the ground as well. And that opens the passing attack.

It's a win. Win both ways. All right, Mitchell Holliday, the second quarterback in under center now with one receiver split out each way. He turns, fakes a handoff play action, throws downfield. He's got a man at the 15 yard line.

It's Holden. And caught down at the 10. For me it's the third huge catch of the night for Carson Tucker. Well, that was just a great buy Tucker, man and man coverage on the outside and just an excellent job. But looks like they're going to bring it back.

They got a hanky down, got a hold. That's too bad. That was a great throw and just beat the corner for Ferris. He was actually in pretty good coverage. He's right on the shoulder, but that was.

That ball was thrown to the inside part of where the receiver was. So he just ran away, kept that distance away from the defensive back, was able to lay out, pick that ball. And that was a beautiful throw. He threw it about 45 yards downfield, right on the button. And I'll tell you what, Paul, you and I have been awfully impressed with the freshman quarterback Joe Sonics in the night.

That was the sophomore Mitchell Holiday. And boy, that's the kind that makes it a quarterback competition. Nothing wrong with that. You have two guys that have game and you basically figure out a way to get them in so they can specialize in the things that they do well. And that was a heck of a throw.

I'd give him a series or two, let him see what he can do. First down and 25 now from their own 35 yard line. Meet on offense. Up 16 nothing on Ferris. 730 to go in the first half.

Empty set here for Mitchell Holiday. Five wide receivers. He takes the snap splits defenders, runs right up the middle and makes it all the way to the 45 yard line. Because Ferris was in man defense, Paul, and he had the whole middle of the field in front of him. That was a design play all the way.

He just took that, that ball and just ran right off the left side. Did a great job, excellent blocking. He's going to go back in there. Did the, the second base slide in there to avoid getting creamed. And that's another smart man right there.

You save a bruise and picks up a gain of man about 15 yards. So now second down and 20, which is still a lot, but a nice gain on the play. And they come out with another interesting kind of pistol looking formation. I'm not even sure how to describe that. With a couple of backs in kind of an L formation.

Handoff up the middle to Nick Terrell, he bounces off to the left side and is met for a short gain on the play. We've been hearing a lot about Caleb Shawn the night Paul, Nick Terrell, the second running back who's, you know, already got 160 yards on the year, not being used very much tonight. Well, you know, they might be decoying him as well along those lines. PRESTON Newcome, number 44, the defensive end for fair, was the guy that was able to get in there. Just a great job of defeating the block and sometimes you'll, you'll disguise and you know, use your best guy as a decoy.

But I think they need to get him into the running attack. He's too good a football player not to be able to carry the football as much as he, he deserves to carry it. Third down and 20 for Mead. The Ferris defense needs another big stop here. Panthers up 16 nothing.

Third down and 20 for here. Then from the own 42 yard line, driving left to right, here's Sonicson looking downfield, rolls right, throws far side. And he overshot his man coming to the near side intended for Brandon Southerly. That one's going to fall incomplete. That was good pressure again that time by the Saxons on the outside.

They rolled him to the right side. It was a little bootleg action, you know, out there. Just an excellent job of getting wide and I think that was Darian Riley who came up number 34 and planted the quarterback. So now Ferris gets a three and out. I think they're making some adjustments on defense because I think this offense caught him by, you know, by surprise.

So they've had to kind of adjust on the fly. Right now you got two on One out here. So if you want to run a fake, unless they get somebody out on defense out there, that would be an automatic deal. See that? Hit that inside receiver, he's going to run a long way.

Looks like we have a timeout on the field called by Ferris with 619 to go here. And that'll take us to a break on the Arby's GSL game of the week on 700 ESPN and 105. 3 FM. Nothing big stop by the Ferris defense last time out and as Mead punted away, Ferris had a fair catch around their own 15 yard line. So. So Paul, that's where they'll take over. Ferris offense has been starting stopping the night. They haven't really found a groove.

They've hurt themselves. Penalties, you know, opportunities to make a big play, just not able to cash in. But I think their defense has settled down a little bit against his Panther offense. Paxton Page the quarterback out of the shotgun. They take the ball from the 20 yard line, turns and hands off right to Cruise Wheeler.

He bounces along his right tackle, gets along to the 24 yard line, turns that into a gain of four. Lot of between four and six yard runs for Cruise Wheeler tonight. Paul. Yeah, that's just a nice job on the outside. That Was Spencer Layman, the defensive end over there that made the tackle.

And looks like some guys are getting up kind of slow. Wheeler's getting up a little bit slow, little gingerly. Was tackled kind of around the. That's not good. That kids tough.

He's a tough kid. And also I think it was, I think that was Nathan Depaulo who's the fine two way player as well. And he's kind of gingerly limping back into the backfield. But he's a two way guy. He's tough.

He'd have to take both his feet off for him not to play. All right, call that a gain of five yards and it'll be second down and five coming up as they take it from, from their own. Call it. 24 yard line. Two deep safeties back here in the formation for Mead.

On defense, they don't want to get beat over the top like they've had happen a couple of times this year. Paxton Page out of the shotgun, Wheeler behind him in the backfield. Good snap. He looks left, looks right, comes back to the near side to G Day Olajoy egby to the 30 yard line. Met by the secondary still on his feet and pushed out of bounds around the 33 for a first down.

Broke a couple of tackles there and was able to get some positive yards. Five minutes to go here in the second quarter, Mead Panthers up 16 and nothing but a nice drive going right now for the fair Saxons getting their second shot here out about the 32 yard line. Now we'll just see if they can do without any more penalties on the way. And yeah, they, they haven't shown that they can drive the ball on this. This Mead Panther defense taking it from their own 32 yard line on the right side of the 53 receivers split to the far side for Paxton.

Page surveys the defense, two linebackers in on defense. Turns and hands off to Cruise Wheeler. Not a lot of guys up the middle of the field as he brings three with him past the 40 yard line toward the 47 for another Damon Orthodontics. First down, two yards shy of the 50. And this is the best looking Ferris series we've seen tonight.

DJ Romero, 75 was the guy that sprang him on that one. A great block. He took out the tackle and then they also sealed the end and it just. He found that scene and blasted right up the middle. Another first down.

Great run, close to Midfield there, but that was the best run by Wheeler the night. All right, Paige out of the shotgun with Wheeler with him in the backfield. Ferris and white uniform, silver helmets and red lettering tonight, new first down turns and hands off to Cruise Wheeler. And that play was botched from the beginning. Wheeler has to fight his way back to the line.

Is scrimmage no gain. That'll take us down inside four minutes. Panthers still on top by 16. This is kind of classic Ferris offense. They're going to run, run, get you, you know, get those linebackers to creep up, maybe those safeties to creep up to try to stop the run.

Then they'll take some shots downfield. They've got 345 to go. We haven't seen the deep ball, you know, yet where they've really launched it downfield and that's because unfortunately Page, the quarterback has been running for his life. Very pressure by the Mead defensive front four. Yeah, the Ferris offensive line is not giving him more than three seconds very much tonight.

All right, he's got second down and nine form as he looks at this defense. Two deep safeties back, two receivers to the right, one to the left. Play action. He rolls out of the defense is there to meet him. He's still on his feet though, rolling backwards, backpedaling to the 40 yard line, back to the 45 as he cuts along the left sideline, dodges a couple of guys.

He's passed midfield down to maybe the 45 yard line of Mead. We'll see what the referee said. He went out of bounds. Well he, he probably ran 50 yards to gain four. So he went left, went right, went backwards, went to the side, circled around Russell Wilson.

Yeah, pretty much. I'll tell you, you know Eric Barrier against Idaho State had a play like that. He bought 15 seconds and probably went back 20 yards. And he found the running back, Dennis Merritt, who wasn't even in the pass play in the back of the end zone for a touchdown. Good quarterbacks figure out a way to buy time like that.

He did that. Got some positive yards. Big third down here. 3:14 to go in the second quarter. Third down and five, they'll say he went out of bounds at the Mead 47 yard line.

Three receivers to the right for Paxton Page again Wheeler in the backfield, turns and hands off to Wheeler. It's going to be a run on third and five. He was met at the line of scrimmage, but he drew dragged four guys with him up to the me 40 yard line for a big Damon Orthodontics. First down, great run that time and that was all Wheeler. He, he had a little bit of a hole but he was able to drag the linebacker with him and that shows the strength that that young man has and did a nice job and they're relying on him.

You know you mentioned the 115 yard game last week. He's doing a great job. He keeps this up, he'll have another hundred yard game as well. All right, down to the 40 yard line they go and that takes us down inside three minutes to go in the first half. Ferris on offense, down 16, nothing in driving same formation, three receivers to the far side, none to the near side for Paxton Page.

He's got a high snap, turns and hands off to Cruise Wheeler. He runs right and the linebackers are there to destroy him for a loss of three yards. Yeah, that was good defense that time by me coming up there and making a play. That was Parker Stratton, you know, the linebackers, you mentioned the senior, nine seniors on this Mead defense as well and they already have one interception at the LB position. Nice job by you know, from that standpoint but just good pursuit taking away the running lanes, you know, for Ferris this, this clock keeps going and Saxons have one timeout left.

Panthers don't have any, which is interesting. 2 minutes and 10 seconds to go. Second down and 13 yards to go here for Ferris. Now three receivers to the left side as they're at the mead at 43 from the right hash mark, deep shotgun here for Paxton Page. They're running out of time.

Time takes the high snap, looks left, throws downfield for olajoy Egby Office. Hands down to the five yard line and actually I think he converged with one of his teammates. Aguirre was the one that came over and defended him. They had two guys running in the same spot and I think he was going for the ball and so they both ran into each other because they had the Mead Panther defense be that should have been a touchdown. So now my question is, does he get a pass breakup on that?

He's gonna, he's gonna take some raspberries and film on that on that one as well. So what happened? You have two receivers running pretty much identical rounds, converging, converging at the same time. They see the ball, they're not seeing the other receiver. Both went for the ball and basically broke it up.

Alright, third down and 13. After a series of unfortunate events for the sack, Page out of the shotgun flag, comes in from the left side referee. And that's A delay, a game that's gonna push push this back another far away as man Ferris continues to shoot themselves in the football. Safety and cornerback there on the five. He overshot his man. He was going for Anthony Aguirre. That'll bring up fourth down at 18 and likely they will punt here. And what was a very promising beginning of this drive for Ferris ends up coming for nothing.

Two wide receivers that are open, both basically crash into each other going for the football, break the ball up, could have been a touchdown. Then you have a penalty that knocks them backwards. They're playing behind sticks. Then you have a throw that basically carries the receivers five yards out of bounds because he gets blasted as soon as he let go of that ball, which pushed it, pushed it right. And once again they will punt here from around the 50 yard line.

That one high to the right side. Back to receive for me here is Calvin Word. He's gonna let that one bounce around the 20, 21, 22 yard line. And that's where they'll have a fair catch. And Mead has a little bit of time left,139 to go until halftime.

They'd like to, you know, continue to extend that lead. Yeah, but if you're Ferris, you have to feel pretty good about this because it got out of control real quick and this game could have been blown a blowout here. But their defense has stiffened a little bit. They've gotten better on their special teams, the offense. If they quit shooting themselves in the tootsies, they've got a chance.

I mean, that should have been a touchdown. There were two guys that were open that had a chance to catch that football and unfortunately they defended each other and got a pass breakup. So now it's up to the Ferris defense to make sure they don't give up a cheap score here before. All right, the sophomore, the Second of the two quarterbacks, Mitchell Holiday in out of the shotgun from the 29 yard line on the left side of the 50 is where Mead will take it. They lead 16 nothing, 139 to go in the half turns and hands off to Caleb.

Shawn gets back to the line of scrimmage. Flags fly in from both sides and we will have another penalty on this play. Well, you're starting to see that was pretty clean up to this point. But now they're getting a little frustrated because I think Ferris has figured out what Mead is starting to do and they're getting a little chippy there. So they're going to throw the flag here and you're going to see it marched off.

Very interesting. Also got some help from, from the safety. I think that was Talarico who came over and cleaned up the play. Now a third linebacker, Calvin Word, who also runs kickback, is back at the 25 yard line as the halfback for this play. Holiday turns hands to him and the linebackers get him for a gain of one on the left side. That was just good pursuit that time and an excellent job.

Looks like Al Newcombe was the guy that came in there and he's. And they're starting to rotate. You can see the defense. It looks like Ferris is going to take their last time out. Got 43 seconds to go.

It's third nine, so they hope to maybe get one more shot, maybe take a shot, throw down field, get a, get a quick score here. They're still down three scores. They need to figure something out offensively. It is pretty funny here, Paul Sorensen, that we are talking about a team going down into halftime 16. Nothing is a win, but it kind of is a win actually.

When you think about it, I mean, you know, you look at what they did in terms of, you know, giving up scores here, they did a great job. And I mean, they were down 16 to nothing in the first quarter, I mean, halfway through it. So it looked like this could be have been a blowout. And then Ferris kind of calmed down. They got their second win.

You know, they were able to do some things. They stiffened on defense, they straightened out their special teams issue and they've had some big play opportunities on offense. They've just not been able to, you know, to convert those into big plays in terms of scores or big first downs and too many penalties. And I don't know how loud our audio is wherever you're listening from on 105, 3 or 700 ESPN, but man, what a welcome feeling, Paul, to have the cheerleaders and the fans and the music. First time in months we have had fans in the stands for high school football.

How about parents getting a chance to finally see their kids plays? All the difference, does it not? Yes, sir, it does. All right, third down and seven, Mead takes over 16 nothing lead, 44 seconds, still halftime. Decent snap there for Holiday.

Turns and hands off to Calvin Word, his second consecutive hand off. He got into the second level before linebackers got to him on the left side. That'll bring up fourth down, 30 seconds to go. And they've done a better job of stopping Mead in terms of what they did on the offense and on special teams. Meetup 16 Nothing on Ferris and Paul Sorensen. It actually happened pretty fast. All of the scoring I would say happened in the first, I'd say about the first seven or eight minutes of this game. Mead had a first, first drive touchdown run from their freshman quarterback Joe Sonics in. Not long thereafter Carson Tucker hauled in a big touchdown pass from Joe Sonics in and then a safety on a badly botched Ferris punt around the goal line.

So it was 60 nothing at the end of the first quarter and nothing since. The Ferris deep kind of got it together. Well they and basically Mead has had the ball pretty much inside Ferris 50. So I give a lot of credit to this Saxon defense because they could have, they could have been and broke and this could have been easily 30 to nothing, you know and this game's out of control but you're really looking at two touchdowns and two 2 point conversions to get back in this thing, you know and I'm starting to see some life from Ferris.

Offensively they've had a couple of opportunities for big plays. You talked about taking advantage of the Mead secondary team taking some shots downfield. There were guys open quarterback just didn't see him. Or they defended themselves on that, on that double post route where they kind of both ran into each other right there right before the end of the half. That would have been a touchdown and a big boost for the Saxon offense.

And you tell me if I'm wrong, which I very well might be. I'm trying to go back and think about how many plays during that first half that their quarterback Paxton Page had even more than five seconds. Probably one maybe, but I think all the rest where he was rolling up because the pocket collapsed. The offense is not giving him time in the pocket. Well that's credit to me.

Up front they're doing a great job. Defensively they've been very stout up front and they've always been really good up front and the offensive line for Meade has been very good. They're opening up holes. They came out with kind of a new offense, kind of a wildcat, you know, little veer option type thing. I mean they, they've changed things up and now you see basically Tom, you're out and staff broke the offense up.

They've gone with the offensive coaches, the defenses with the defensive coaches. They're making some adjustments right now based on what happened in that first half. The Panthers are feeling pretty good about themselves, trying to get to 2 and 2 on the season and Ferri Grumpy they got off to a kind of a slow start, let's give me the credit on that.

They came out ripping and snorting here in the first quarter and really put it to the Saxons, but they've kind of stopped the bleeding a little bit. You can sense a little bit of a momentum change going into halftime and I think Ferris is going to get the football to start the second half. They're going to get a chance to come out and get after and I was, I was impressed by North Central. I thought they did a nice job in that first game that we had in the doubleheader when we were sitting up here setting. They took on a pretty game Rogers team and heck of a win, 40 to 31, but that's their second win of the season.

They also did a nice job, went down to Clarkston and beat those guys. So that's two wins for NC and that's something that, that doesn't happen very often. It's been a while one away when we were actually more impressed with, with the passing game. So often when you talk about GSL teams that you don't think are high power offensive teams, you talk about them as a running team, a ground and pound team. I was very impressed, Paul, with the way North Central was giving their quarterback a little time.

He was firing 10 yard darts over the middle. That's not something you're used to seeing from a team like that. No, I agree. You know, and I think there's, they're starting to find their traction. I give the coaching staff and you know those folks over there, I mean they've been so good on the cross country track and field.

I mean they're, they're the Oregon, Washington states of the old days when you know, you'd see John Chaplin down there. And they're winning the mythical duel championships and Oregon's winning the national championships and they're battling and you know, and that's what they've done. It's a track and field school. They done a great job. The other sports are trying to catch up to that.

And so I've been impressed by what I've seen on the football. You know, the maturation project with that football program. They're doing a much better job and it's great to see elsewhere tonight in our other live game score updates. Pullman took down east valley 28 7. Pullman now two and two on the year.

East Valley still looking for that first win. They're struggling a little bit right now, but you know, Pullman has always been a good program. And you have Clarkson. And I think, think that's the cool thing that's been added to the Greater Spokane. This league.

It's really expanded. You know, I coach at Lewis and Clark and we had Clarkson in Cheney, West Valley, East Valley, you know, in the Greater Spokane League. So the Great Northern League basically has blended in now with the GSL. And you basically have a super conference. You have 16 teams at three different divisions.

The 4A level, the 3A level. Your 4A's are your Lewis and Clarks and your Gonzaga Preps and your Central Valleys U highs, Ferris, you know, you know, those guys along those lines. And, you know, Cheney's actually moved up. They were A2A school, but they've got enough bodies now that they're a 3A school. And they're competitive.

They're tough that we had them earlier in the season and I was very impressed by Cheney. They lost a tough one in Mount Spokane, but they were very game and very competitive. The Greater Spokane League, just call it the big 16. Yes. It's like, you know, basically half the country now.

It seems like the Big 12. And you're going to get a new school coming in, you know, in Liberty Lake next fall as well, so. So if Othello stays in the league, which I doubt they will, they'll probably go back to their, you know, their own level. But it's been good to have them in. You know, they've added their very good football program over the years and, you know, they're going to create some problems and some issues as well.

So it's good to see and I love the balance. The best thing is they're out playing. The moms and dads and families and friends can come out and support the athletes on the field. Finally. Watch.

Ferris is warming up in the east end zone and Mead is over on the on the west side and they're kind of loosening up, getting ready for the second half action. Both teams have had a chance to kind of reconnoiter and talk about what happened.

They need to put together a drive, not have penalties, not have mistakes where, you know you've got 10 guys working well together and one guy making a mistake. This offense needs to score to get some confidence in terms of doing what they're doing now. On the other side, the Meade defense has played very well. They've thrown a shutout here in the first half and they want to continue to do that. They pretty much played this game Meade did on the Ferris sidelines at Ferris 50 on in. So it'll be interesting to see will they be able to hold off Ferris coming back or will Meade be able to extend their lead lead up 16 to nothing.

The Pac 12 has started out two and oh, and the Big Ten has lost four. Four teams, you know, have lost in the first. First day. So it just shows you that's what March Madness is all about. It's crazy.

Get ready to start the second half and meet on top of Ferris. 16 Nothing. The opening kick of the second half goes back into the end zone. Ferris takes it in. They'll take it from their 20 yard line.

Well, Paxton Page had some guys running deep. He missed a post in the first quarter of a receiver on the backside that was wide open open. He had a really nice throw where his two receivers kind of collided with each other and broke up the ball or that could have been a touchdown. So they've been close. They just haven't been able to finish.

And I think that's going to be the key here in the second half. Can they finish? In the first three games of this year, the quarterback Paxton Page was about a 50% passer, probably not even quite that high tonight. But I'm not sure that's really his fault. No, I think there have been some routes that have been broken off and just a couple of guys that had chances make catches.

It couldn't be alright. Ferris in their white uniforms tonight, down 16 nothing to me. They take over from their own 20 yard line on the left side of the field, turns and hands off the Cruise Wheeler on another zone run to the right side. Taken down at the 26 surprisingly turned that into a gain of five or six yards. That was the most polite tackle I've ever seen.

He just kind of hurtled over this pile and this guy just kind of came up and almost like helped him to the ground. I mean he didn't tackle him or push him, he just kind of escorted him to the ground. It was very polite. I call it a couple caress. Okay.

No, yeah. No, no, maybe not maybe. Yeah, more of a cradle. Cradle? Cradle's fair.

Cradle's fair. That's why I give you the color. You do the crest thing, I'll do the cradle. You got it. Second down and three.

Three receiver split to the left side here for Paxton Page. He's a pocket quarterback by trade but hasn't gotten a lot of time to be in the pocket tonight. Takes a high snap once again, gives to Wheeler. He bounces right side, taken down the linebackers at the 30 yard line. If he didn't get the first down, he's only half a yard short.

Well, you got. You can thank Caleb Schwann over there. He's. He's a two way player, the senior. He also is the young man that has the interception.

If he didn't make that tackle. Wheeler still in the end is still running. He was wide open after that. That was a great job of coming over and cleaning up that and to get a first down. That's your Damon Orthodontics first down.

Thank you very much, Damon. Two locations on the north side in the South Hill. Well done. All right up to the 30 yard line. He goes and run plays to start the second half here from Ferris down 16.

Nothing to me but their offenses looked rather three their offenses looked awfully good. Pass here, throws near side to Ola Joy Egg be up to the 30 yard line. Bounces off a guy, takes two or three to bring him down. Including the help of the safeties. About seven yards on that play.

And we saw them try that hitch play once before, Paul. It did not work this time it does well. He threw it low that time. He hit him right in the chest. Gave him a chance.

By the way, there's three Damon Locations. I forgot the Valley. But that's what happens when you get older, you forget things. I'm just happy I. I brought my coat tonight, so.

Sorry about that guys. Call that a gain of eight yards. So second down and two coming up. And now the Saxons can do kind of whatever they want. Four down linemen here for Mead on the right side of the line of scrimmage of their navy jersey white helmets.

That ball is on the ground. Snap. The Page is able to fall on it back at the 35, but man, what a missed opportunity. It just keeps happening to Ferris. Well, it was just a bad snap, but it was also a thing where, where Paige had a Chance he didn't look that football in.

He kind of took a peek to see what was going on and that ball dribbled off his fingers there and again it's almost like they're right there getting ready to crash the party and then all of a sudden somebody slams the door. And that was a slam the door play because now you're back behind the sticks where you were second and two, you could have done anything. Now you're third and six. Third down and six for Ferris. Down 16, nothing with 932 to go in the third quarter.

Mead Paige Five yards deep in the shotgun, Wheeler behind him. He has Aguirre and Olajoy split to the receivers at the far side. Turns and hands off to Wheeler. He's met by the defensive line. He does pick up a gain on the play.

Right hash mark call that a gain of three yards. Fourth down and two and they're gonna send out their punt unit. I'm surprised. I thought Ferris would go for it, you know. Basically you know you got nine minutes to go here in the third quarter.

You haven't had success. You're starting to run the ball. You really had one play that was just a bad snap. But when you're running the ball you get 2, 3, 4 yards every pop. So.

So I'm surprised they're kicking the ball here. Calvin word back to receive for me to Sperris. Brings out their punt formation from their own 24 yard line. Back to kick this away is Mason Buckland thankfully gets a good snap this time. Puts one in the air.

A end over end kick to the 35 yard line. Here comes Calvin order to return from the 35 cuts between the hash marks. Gets out right past midfield down to the Ferris 40 yard line and a 20 yard return. On that play nothing again another big play on special teams. Kick return set the tempo in the first half.

In the first play took it right up past midfield. They went down the field and scored on the on the touchdown run by Sonicson. This time they get a basically a punt. Great return. 20 yards on the punt return that time.

Again excellent field position all the way up to the Ferris 41. They're starting on the other side of the 50. This game for the Mead offense has been played almost entirely on fair Ferris side of the field. And correct me if I'm wrong, the times it hasn't been on the Ferris side of the 50, it's at least been past their own. I know they've had great field position and that's because the special Teams have dominated.

All right, so here comes Mead on offense. They lead Ferris 16 nothing. They take over from the Ferris 42 yard line on the left side of the field. This is the freshman quarterback Joe Sonicson under center. They send a tight end in motion, turns and hands off to Nick Terrell, their second best running back.

He bounces off tackle right side, picks up 4 yards. I didn't think he had any chance to get a positive yard. He was just able to kind of slither and find that groove and just angle that body up field. That's just really good running. That's why I like that kid.

He's got to get the football more. That's a really good running. We were saying in the first half, Paul, Nick Terrell's a talented running back. He's a grind. He grinds out extra yards.

He's a grinder. This looked like a no gainer and he got four yards. That's a sign of a really good yak. Yards. Yards after contact.

It's impressive. They need to go to him more and it looks like they might. All right, so. So it's called a second down and six yards as they send Sonics in. Back under center with a pair of running backs in the eye formation.

He turns and hands off to Caleb Shawn. His first handoff at the second half. He gets up there for a gain of about four. That should bring up third down at about a yard. Ferris made a couple good third down stops in the first half.

Can they do it again here on defense? I like what head coach Benji Saundensen's doing with his, you know, this, this football team. He's riding the football. He's riding behind his offensive line kind of between the tackles. They're grinding.

They're really working this defensive line for Ferris and creating some holes and he's playing behind the sticks. What does that mean? He's getting three, four yards on every, on every down. That makes it very manageable. You got third and three here.

This is a manageable third down. Your entire playbook is open. And the Mead Panthers driving right to left. Third down and two in their navy uniforms. Bunch formation turns and hands off to Terrell.

Goes between the center and the guard. He takes a couple of guys with with them. Past the Ferris 30 yard line and spun down to the 26 for a big Damon Orthodontics. First down. They keep this drive moving.

Jacob Tanani saved the touchdown that time. He came over from his Cornerback position number 24 wearing the same thing that his brother wore back in the day, same number and he saved that touchdown because he broke through one guy to go. Tanani was there and he knocked him down. But again a first down. Another nice run by Mead there.

Win it kind of the old fashioned way. Kind of blue collar, you know, offense right now they're running between the tackles. Run, run, run. This kind of looks actually extra ball like a Big Ten game. It looks like more they were doing the first three weeks of the season.

They passed a lot of the first. Jeff Thorpe out there. Are we going to see, you know him make an appearance? All right. Turns and hands off on the new first down to Terrell.

Wow. Again spins four guys with them as he brings the whole linebacking crew with him for a semen gain of about 7 yards. I actually think Paul, he's gotten more yards after contact than before contact. Well and he's played very well. Played very well on both sides of the ball too because he also has that interception and set up a touchdown as well.

So there might be a candidate for your. Your alliant insurance player of the game. Young man has done well, well on both sides of the ball. Been impressed in a 7 yards second down and three coming up. They're all the way down to the Ferris 20 yard line and meet on top of Ferris 16 nothing.

Trying to extend that lead on this drive. Two backs in the backfield there for Sonics and one receiver split to the far side. Turns and hands off to Terrell again. He's brought down from behind by one of the linebackers. I think that was Ryan Perry or Barry.

23, that might well be. I thought it was 27, but the rosters are a little sketch. It's the first couple weeks of the year. I trust your vision better than mine. I see blurry stuff out there.

It looks like fog rolling in in the San Francisco Bay, but whatever. Well, we'll figure it out. I trust you. Whatever you call is good. All right, no gain on the play.

This will be a third down and call it two and a half years. This would be another big stop for Ferris. But they've already given up. Actually they're going to measure here. I think.

I think he got a pretty good push, you know, kind of with that pile. So it's going to be close to the first down. They're looking at it. It's still. I think they're going to measure this thing.

They're going to bring it back out. Yeah. All right, well, let's see here. It's all you, Paul. Okay, let me just.

It's that close. Yeah. Ferris is pointing back the other way. And they are correct. So this is going to be a very.

This is certainly less than a yard. It's closer to half a yard. Quarterback sneak it. Get behind your center and pick one of the sides. Either go right or left and you can basically get the length of the football.

You get the first down. So this is going to be third down and just inches for me. The question is, which quarterback do they send out? It's going to be the freshman, the coach's son, Joe Sonicson. They got to get about a half yard.

They got to get down to the 20 rather they got to get down to the 15. They're at the 15 and a half yard line. It really is that close. Big bunch formation. Only one receiver out to the far side for the Panthers.

And Ferris is stacking the box. They've gotten 10 men in the box. Sonicson goes under center. It's a quarterback sneak. He falls forward and he's got the Damon Orthodontics.

First down. You know, that was just a good wedge block. He knew that was going to happen. And you know, you have to have your nose guard and your D tackles basically pinch. And what happened, they just got a good push.

That center does a nice job. He comes up, feels the quarterback, snaps the ball. He goes on that, you know, that first touch and they go and they just got basically better leverage. They were lower on the attack than Ferris was on the defensive side and that blew him off. The ball picked up the first down all the way down to the 14 yard line.

They got a couple more yards than they needed to actually. So Ferris on defense backed up against their own goal line. And Mead on the move on the Ferris 14. They lead 16 nothing. One receiver split far outside.

Sonics in and at quarterback, drops back, play action, pressured from behind and down he goes at the 20 for a sack and a loss of 4 yards. That was just great defensive pursuit that time. They had basically one man in coverage or one man, you know, route that Time. They're trying to catch Ferris sleeping. Tanani picked it up, he was all over the wide receiver.

Excellent job. They brought pressure up the middle. Both inside backers were able to blitz. Really no place for Sonicson to go and he just kind of had to eat that and and lost five yards. But a nice defensive stand there.

You know you've got some guys that are coming in now and stepping up. You got DJ Romero in there on defense. Looks like Ryan Barry 23 is in there. Preston Newcome did a nice job. 44.

Those guys were all over the place. All right, second down and 15 for me to after the sack of the loss, Sean comes into play, running back Sonicson takes the handoff, he gives it to Sean. They'll make a big hole around the 15 yard line. He falls forward to the left, gets five or six yards on the play. That's not bad.

Bringing up a more manageable third down as the clock now brings us down inside four minutes in the third. Well that this, this quarter is zippity. You know it's zipping along quickly because it's been an all running attack. They're not, they're not having to pass the ball, they're keeping it on the ground. They're burning clock.

That's smart. Mead has been awfully good inside the Ferris red zone today and they'll try it again here. Third down and eight. They've got to get down to the Ferris four yard line on the left side of the field to make it a first down. Sonic's in in at quarterback, turns and hands off to Caleb Shawn on the third down.

They'll keep the on the ground here. But he's dropped for a loss by the defensive backs. That'll bring up fourth down and it looks like Mead will send out a field goal attempt here. But last time they tried this Paul, it was no good, right? Mason Backlin was that young man that came up from his safety position number two and he stuck his nose in there.

Excellent defense. They brought pressure that time and they're really dialing it up here. Let's see if Mead can get a field goal out of this deal. Clock continues to run. They're down to three minutes.

Panthers still up 16 and nothing. The left footed kicker LJ harm in to try to make it a 19 nothing game. It is 16 nothing mead. Good snap, good hold. Fires that one through on the right side.

What? Update. That field goal drive from the ME Panthers, that was, I call it about 45 yards. Here's the kickoff. Ferris Saxons recovered around the 15 yard line.

They scampered up to around the 20. It is a 19 nothing lead now for the Mead Panthers on top of the Ferris Saxons. And Paul, it's about time for Ferris to kick it into gear. They need to score and they need to score lickety split because they're down three scores right now. And you know, that was just A nice job.

L. J. harm gets a field goal, 36 yards. Good drive. Ate up at least six minutes on the clock.

And that, you know, again that was, that ball was taken on that punt return inside of ferris, you know, 50 yard line once again. So the offense has had to go length of the field and they haven't been able to figure it out against this ME defense. All right, so the junior transfer quarterback from Oregon, Paxton Page, has a long way to go. Ferris takes over in their white jerseys on their own 20 yard line. Line on the left side of the field.

Play action. Page drops back looking downfield, has a lot of time. Throws to the near side into coverage. Pass intended for his old high school teammate, Anthony Aguirre. It's over his head and out of bounds.

That'll bring up second down and 10. Really one of the first times tonight, Paul. They've given him some time to throw well and then they couldn't get the receivers open. All three of those guys were blanketed. Great job in the back end by Meade in their secondary.

And again, offensive line for Ferris. You're exactly right, Greg. From the standpoint, they bought time, gave him every opportunity he went to three different receivers, all three were covered. So that's a win, win all the way around. And basically a nice job by By Page to get rid of the football and throw it incomplete.

His coaches say that he shows flashes of being a great GSL quarterback. He just needs to settle in. Maybe he can here. On second down and 10, three receivers split to the left. Good snap, turns and gives to Cruz Wheeler met at the line of scrimmage.

No gain. Third and ten. Yeah. Another Schwarn again came up on the tackle. The two way player has played very, very well.

He's had the, a gaggle of touchdowns there and he got help, you know, up front. So just a nice job, a little john going back and forth between the offensive defensive linemen. And the referee steps in, says, fellas, calm down now, let's have a little chat. We'll have some teens and crumpets here. Let's not get carried away.

I don't want to throw a hanky at you. Let's not bicker about who killed who. This is supposed to be a happy occasion. Now it's, you know, it's happy, happy joy, joy out here. Third down in 10 from their own 20 yard line.

Ferris down 19, nothing against me. The two minutes to go in the third quarter. Slow snap, Paige is there, he's got time. Looking left, Throws far side off the hands of Anthony Aguirre. Passes a little bit high.

Aguirre is kicking himself as that falls to the turf. Incomplete. Fourth down. Yeah, another good coverage. That, that was Lane Lorenz, the safety, number 33 that came in and broken that ball did a great job of taking the angle off and I think that's why the ball sailed on him.

He had him open. He just basically, you know, air mailed that thing a little bit and that's kind of the inconsistencies you've talked about about where he needs to work on. He's got somebody there. That would have been a first down. He's got to hook up and connect on that.

All right, so Farris once again punting from their own 20 yard line. Back inside the 10. To kick again is poor Mason Backland. Once this happened on this side of the field before, it was over his head. This time it's on the turf.

He tries to get it away. It's blocked at the 10 yard line. One of his own teammates picks it up with a 12 down he goes and talk about field position. Mead's only got to go 12 yards here, Paul. I had to punt One time I punted once and I kicked the up back right in the tuchus to the football.

That was the last time I ever punted. That time was just kind of a low snap. But he didn't, he didn't have a chance to field it. It came off his hands. Did a good job of evading me.

They got in there and then he went to kick and he kicked the guy right in the backside. It was his own player. That's, that's adding insult to injury trying to block for him and then all of sudden you get a football on the took us. Who needs a butt fumble when you have a butt punt? That's what they always say.

He turns and hands off to Caleb Sean who's been a great two way player tonight. He's up to the 11 yard line, maybe a gain of one on the Ferris defense with a good stop. Yeah, you know I admire what Ferris is doing on defense right now. They're trying to ball out, they're doing a good job. They're been put in really bad situations by the special teams.

Given up points with a safety, you know, bad snap of balls inside their 15 yard line. They've done a great job of kind of hanging in there and keeping this thing close. But they're not getting any help from their offense and they're not getting help from their special teams. Caleb, Shawn, back out there is the running back at the bottom of the eye formation and Sonics in and at quarterback. Two tight ends, the left side.

It's a bunch formation, no receivers split out either way. Second down and 3, 7 sonics and turns and hands off to Sean. He looks for a couple of blockers, decent vision. He gets up to around the six yard line, brings a bunch of guys with him, brings up maybe a short third down and two. That play should have gone for maybe a yard.

Paul, what a push. I've been impressed by him. You know. We're inside of 40 seconds here in the third quarter and this is what Mead wanted to do. They burned clock, they kept Ferris out of the end zone and they were able to get three points of their own on that field goal.

You know, just with about 248 to go here in the quarter, the clock continues to run. They'll have to get one more playoff here before the quarter ends. 25 seconds to go in the third quarter, Mead has the ball. Third down and one on the Ferris 10 yard line. I formation.

No receivers split out either way. They're all right up there on the six yard line. Sonicson goes under center, Ferris has stacked the box, turns and hands off to Caleb Shawn. He was met in the backfield by a linebacker. Yeah, so four downs to go and only a yard to try to make it happen. So. So the Mead Panthers in their navy uniforms and white helmets come back out on the right side of the fields. One yard line, trying to go up more than 20 points on the Ferris Saxons. The freshman quarterback Joe Sonicson under center, eye formation for the Panthers.

He turns it, hands off to Caleb Shawn, he dives forward to the one yard line. I think he got it, might have got tripped. We'll see what the referees have to say if he didn't get it. He was awfully close and it looks like they're going to say he was down just inches shot short. Nice stop there from behind by Ferris.

Second down and goal coming up for Mead. Touchdown for me was a 1 yard quarterback keep by Sonics. And so let's see if they maybe come back to that big strong kid. The young man's only a freshman, getting a lot of valuable game experience here and could be leading this team for the next three years after this. That would be very impressive.

Another eye formation on the right side of the fields. One yard line here for me Sonics. And under center already has one rushing touchdown. Turns and hands off to Sean. He's dropped at the three yard line as the linebackers came cruising through the garage.

Now they're going to try to get outside. I think this is where you play action them get outside and give Sonny Jen the chance to get outside. Let your tight end do a smash route where he basically blocks on the end and then releases and let him run if he thinks he can get to the corner, take it up the field, score touchdown. If not dump the ball off. Your tight end will be wide open because basically the guy that was guarding him is inside getting blocked.

Mead is up on Ferris, 19 nothing and the Panthers have the ball down at the three yard line of the sacks. 10:50 to go. Trying to put the nail in the coffin as it were. Sonics in back under center from the two yard line. Sean in the backfield.

Farris stacks the box. He turns and pitches to Sean Wright. He gets to the outside and finds his way into the end zone. Touchdown Panthers, 25 nothing, on top of Ferris with 10:38 to go. That was just a nice job, you know getting outside.

They saw Ferris was, was packed in there doing an excellent job and you know getting up field and just a pitch to the outside. Two blocks and he was able to cut back inside and very, very nice touchdown run. From three yards out. That was Caleb Shawn, his first and first rushing touchdown of the night. Didn't have very far to go.

The STCU scoreboard drive update. That was a 12 yard drive ball. Well, and let's give Ferris some, some credit. They hung in there and made it difficult but still your, your special teams killed you on that Pat. Kick that one up and going.

10:30 to go. Let's see your last STCU score update. That was a 12 yard seven play drive. Ferris hung in there on well and they did a great job of basically taking away, you know, between the tackles and Mead ended up bouncing the ball on the outside and you know, let's give credit where credit is due.

Just an excellent job by Caleb Schwann who's been outstanding. He was really the, the bell cow on that drive, carrying the ball. All right, here comes Ferris in their white uniforms from the right side of the fields. 20 yard line. They're down 26 nothing.

Paxton page takes a good snap, turns and hands to Cruise Wheeler. Defense waiting for him along the right side for a gain of 2 or 3 yards. We've been impressed with Cruz Wheeler. I think by the time he's a senior, Paul, he's going to be one of the best players in this league. Well, I agree with you.

I mean, he runs hard, he does an excellent job. He's not getting a lot of help. He's having to break a lot of tackles. He's making a lot of yards after contact and that's what you look for. And he's doing that as a sophomore.

You add two more years of experience and weight and height and strength on this kid. You know, he's showing he can play in this league. Starting as a freshman. He's going to be really good. I like him.

Paige comes out in the shotgun again here. Second down and seven and they're giving him a spell now it looks like a second running back in here in the backfield now for Ferris as a turner to run player along the far side past the 40 yard line, past the 50 and run out of bounds for a big play that was hauled in by Anthony Aguirre. His third catch of the night. Nice job by Aguirre. He kind of gave ground there.

Looked like he was going to lose ground on, you know, not picking up the first down. But then he did a great job on the stiff arm that time. Was able to get by the corner, zip right down the Ferris sidelines. He stepped out of bounds on about the 47 of mead, but that was Ferris's best play. Offensive play of the night.

Great job. Just on a little five yard curve route. And Ferris now down to the Mead 47 yard line. Across the 52 receivers split to the left side and one to the right here for Paxton Page. He turns and hands off to Charlie Markham.

His second carry of the night. The backup running back, he picks up a gain of a yard as he gets to the right hash and gets shoved down. Yeah, that was. They're just trying to go to the wide side. But a nice job by the linebackers to step up and fill that gap.

And that plays being made because your defensive tackles and defensive ends are kind of, you know, basically controlling the line of scrimmage, allowing your linebackers to flow and make the tackles. And they're doing a great job. Only one or two yards downfield, making it tough for Ferris, you know, to make it, you know, second along third long. Daniel Crumley, who has not made a catch tonight, now split to the left side with only one defender on him. He's got a man in the slot as well.

Low snap here to Paxton. Page is looking over towards Crumley. Pocket collapsing, rolls outright, looks downfield. No one There throws over to the right side. That one is hauled in by G Day Holo joy.

Exactly. His third target of the night. His second catch and a big Damon Orthodontics. First down, down toward the 30. Ola J.

Agaby has done a nice job of getting open. He came from the left side, came all the way across the field on a drag route. But because that play took forever, he was able to get about 30 yards across the field and make the catch. How often do you see a 6 foot 3 slot receiver, Paul? Not very often.

They're usually little mini me's out there. But they're really quick and they have great hands. But he's 63 and is really quick and got great hands. That's a nice combination. Three receivers split to the near side here for Paxton page from the 30 yard line of the Mead Panthers.

Ferris looking for their first touchdown. He'll throw for the first touchdown for Anthony Aguirre in the end zone. It's off his hands and incomplete. Good defensive play over there. That was Calvin Word.

The senior corner just did a nice job of high pointing that ball. Both guys went up for it. Word was able to get up there and just swatted away. Look like Karch Karra. There's a little volleyball, you know, metaphor.

I know you're gonna laugh, but that goes back a long way. I'm old school on that. He was a great USA volleyballer, many time Olympian, many time, you know, two man beach volleyball champion. That's what he looked like. Sorry, I'll have to go take a couple looks on YouTube, Google, just Google Karch Karai, okay?

And then you'll be able to see. You looked at me like, who the heck is that? Second down and 10 from the 30 yard line. Turns it hands off. And once again, this is Charlie Markham.

I think they might be giving Cruise Wheeler a breather here. That ball's on the ground at the 31 yard line. Question is, who fell on it? Mead is pointing to the right side of the field saying they've got it. And they do, man.

Ferris got it all the way down to the Mead 30 yard line and once again they blow it. Well that's, that's too bad because that was just a great job by me. Looked like the running back for Ferris kind of spun to the outside, somebody had him wrapped up. And then, you know, they come in and you teach the second guy to rip at the ball. And that's what they did and they just knocked it straight down.

And again, another very promising drive by the fair Saxon ends in a turnover and you've seen two bad snaps on punts. That's considered a turnover in my opinion. An interception and now a fumble here. That's four gaffes and you wonder why. It's 26 to nothing.

And actually this is going to be even more frustrating when I tell you this. Before this game in this season, Paul, in their first three games they'd been to the red zone six times. They hadn't scored on any of those drives and all those games they haven't even gotten to the red zone tonight. Well, and they're just, they're making mistakes at critical times and that's a young, inexperienced team that needs this experience. That's why this league is great playing in the spring.

Wildcat formation here for Calvin Ward, the running back who takes the snap from the 30 yard line, runs out of bounds to the left, taken down as he's are on the knees as he gets to the out of bounds mark. Call that a gain of 4 or 5 yards on the play. Winds us down inside 8, 30 to go in this one. Mead on offense and driving left to right up 20. Well, and that's the thing, you add another wrinkle, you could throw the wildcat in there.

You can put one of your best running backs in a position where he controls the ball. Back in the day when Gonzaga Prep had Bishop Sankey, the young man that went on to become Washington's all time leading rusher and then played several years in the National Football League, they would put the ball in his hands on every single play and he was a beast to try to defend. All right, the second quarterback, Mitchell Holliday in now under center for what is a second down and six for the Mead. Panthers driving left to right, turns and hands off to Nick Terrell, bounces forward past the 40 yard line, is a little bit short of the first down by maybe a yard. And if you're the Meade Panther coaching staff right now, you know they've had, they've had some frustration this season.

There's been some grumblings and things going on in Mead. They weren't happy with how this preseason's, you know, progressing, but this is a very impressive effort by the Panthers right now. They're controlling the clock, they're grinding out yards, they're shutting out a good Saxon football team right now, now and they're doing it with physical play, getting turnovers and winning the special teams battle.

Mead from their own 41 yard line. Third down and one. They've got to get to the 32. Holiday comes out under center. Terrell's there with him in the backfield.

It's a quarterback sneak. He falls forward. He's got the first down. He's up to the 45. That's a long fall.

Forward Will Chamberlain would have been proud of that deal. He picked up five yards. That was impressive, you know, but that was just a good push your offensive line and see, you can see a defense that's getting tough. Saxons have been out there a long time, you know, in terms of making plays. Offensive line is starting to sense that they've got a great chance to win this game.

And a defense, it's, you know, trying to substitute, trying to get some guys that are fresh in there because this defense for the Saxons have been on the field a long time. Seven minutes to go in this one. Meet on top of Ferris 26 nothing driving from their own 45 yard line. Sonics in rather. This is Holiday at quarterback.

The sophomore of the two turns and hands off to Nick Taylor. He falls forward into the back of his HB. He's past the 50 yard line, up to the opposing 46, picks up 6 or 7 yards on the play and you know, play a little funny music there too. Well, it was Ryan Murbach 64 that was actually pulling out in front of him. And what does he get?

He gets rewarded with a helmet in the back of his shoulder. Yeah, I know. Poor guys try to block for me. Gets creamed by his running back and you know, he'd come back in the huddle, go, dude, I'm on your team. I have a blue chair.

Go run over the guys with the white jerseys, not me. That's a good idea, dude. We did that a lot on our team. So that's why I was very familiar with that indeed. Vernacular.

Second down and three. I'm sure that's exactly the words you guys use too. And we have some movements on both sides of the line and flags coming in. And if that's against Ferris, that'll give me the first down there, which is disappointing. So if not, if somebody moved.

Yep, that's going to be against Ferris. There you go. You just give him a first down. They continue to move the ball down, first field, continue to burn. Clock here.

And I know this has been frustrating for head coach Tom Year out and his staff, and I give me a lot of credit. They came out with an offense that the Saxons had not seen and it fooled him a little bit in the first quarter. All right, so that is a Damon Orthodontics first down given up by penalty. So they're up to the 42 yard line, into Ferris territory. One receiver split out to each side and a offset eye formation here for Holiday.

Play action. He turns, rolls left, he's met throws to the near side. That one is hauled in by price to the 34 yard line. Falls down, gain of about nine yards on the play. That is only the second completed play action pass from the Panthers tonight, but that one went pretty well.

Yeah, that was just a nice job of, you know, getting over there and making plays and just a nice job of rolling out. Good pressure by the Saxons, you know, an outstanding job. Again, that was Logan Wagner, the outside linebacker who was pressuring the quarterback, but nice throw. Hits his receiver right in the chat chest and you know, picks up. Looks like a good nine yard gain.

Nine yard gain. Holiday back in at quarterback with Terrell there in the backfield. One receiver split out to each side. 5:10 left to go in this game. Turns and hands off to Terrell.

Linebackers along the outside try to bring him down. Falls forward to the 30 yard line and he's got a Damon Orthodontics first down. And again they're just grinding between the tackles. You know, you've got a tired Saxon defense right now. He's been on the field a long time.

This offensive line line has controlled, you know, this game. They've done a nice job of basically isolating, you know, Ferris and the only pressure that Ferris has been able to get is when they're blitzing their linebackers which opens up the passing attack because you've got man coverage on the backside. Then all right, up to the Ferris 30 yard line comes Mead. They're up 26 with 445 to go. No deep safeties back for Ferris.

They're stacking the box. Holiday throws out far side and sails it way over the head of Max Workman, the freshman receiver. Yeah, Workman, that time was wide open. Ran down about 7 yards, turned around unfortunately needed to be about 11, 2 to catch that ball. That ball sailed just a bit.

That was where a quarterback, you know, turns and flicks instead of standing, having a good face, you know, and following and finishing with his shoulders. He just turned and flicked that ball out there and it kind of sailed on him and it stopped the clock. So that was a double. No, no, don't want to be stopping the clock with 435 receiver that's open in the 20 chest, not throw it to the sidelines. Indeed, from the Ferris 30 yard line they send a tight end in motion.

435 to go in this one. Second down and 10 turns and fakes play action. Nope. And instead it is a handoff to Sean. And that one goes nowhere.

Ferris did not bite on defense. That'll bring up third down. It'll also take us down inside. Four minutes to go. Yeah, they're gonna continue to run in this.

Nice job that time by looks like Walter, number 33, the defensive end, the junior came in, he blitzed through there, did a great job of, of getting up field and making that play. And also Ryan Barry, who's been very active. Yeah, number 23 for the Saxons. He's had a bunch of plays where he's been in the backfield. And you know, I like what I see.

There's some talent. There's, there's talent on this team. They just need to gel. They need to come together and play as a team, not as individuals. It's exactly right.

Third down and 15 coming up here for me to big shotgun formation here for Holiday. What can he do? Do? Word drops into pass coverage. He throws for the end zone.

That is hauled in by Carson Tucker. Was he in bounds? No, out of bounds at the one yard line. It's not going to count. But boy, that was almost another touchdown for Carson Tucker.

Actually a good call by the officials. He was right there on it. And Tucker had his man beat. Good coverage. But what the corner did is he walled him off and used the sideline so he had two of his feet on the white which is out of bounds here at Union Stadium.

And that was a good call by the three ball. Just sailed a little bit by the quarterback. He had the right throw, had the right guy. Good coverage, good play all around. Just missed it by about six inches.

Well, it's fourth down and 15 to go here from the Ferris 35 yard line. I guess you don't need to try kicking, you don't need to try punting. Maybe it's go forward territory, who knows? Remember the mistakes that Ferris has made. Interception costs a drive, fumble cost a drive. Too bad. Snaps on your. On your punts cost two points and a touchdown drive, you know, set up from 12 yards out.

So now it's time to get better in offense. And this is the reps that you need. From their own 20 yard line, Paxton Page turns and hands off to Charlie Markham. He bounces to the outside linebackers there to meet him. No gain on the play.

Second down coming up. That takes us down inside 330. Flag comes in too. So that might. I don't know if that's a holder.

It could be, could be a face Matt against me. And I think that'll be a penalty if that's the case. That'll move it down 15 yards. See what they're doing? They're trying to figure out referees convert.

That's a biggie. I think that was a face mask. So that gives again. And this is where, this is where football teams can get better. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal.

They're down 26 to nothing, but there's 333 to go. They need the reps. They need, need the live game reps. And if they could put together a touchdown drive here, that's exactly what Tom, you're out. And his staff wants to see.

We've been impressed with individual plays by Ferris tonight, but they've just got to start to gel in the coming weeks and they've got to hang on to the football. The turnovers were problematic in this game and the special team snaps. That's something they're going to have to work on and you know, but I see, I see positive things here with, with Ferris.

I see a good football team that just needs to figure out that they're a good football team. Second down and nine. High snap. Paige throws to the far side out of bounds. And it's caught by one of his junior varsity teammates.

He's just hanging out on the sideline line. I'm not sure who that was intended for. Maybe he broke the route off. I think Aguirre was supposed to go, you know, go on that one. And he said, you know, I'm gonna go down seven yards and turn around.

Caught by a five foot three kid on the sideline. Hey, that's my son. Don't make fun of him. We're short, we're late bloomers. That's the way it works, you know, and.

But we're nails in college. We finally catch up to everybody, you know, you never know. There's always that. And it's funny because you. I remember when we had grid kids, it was fifth, sixth, something, eighth grade.

There are some kids in fifth and sixth grade that were absolute beasts. By the time they got to their sophomore junior year, they disappeared. It's pretty amazing. Third down and nine here for Ferris. High snap to Page.

Pumps once rolls out linebackers now coming after him. He gets to the line of scrimmage and is pushed out of bounds. That was a nice pump fake, but people weren't downfield enough. And he's taken down for a short gain, if any, on the play. What I've noticed down and what I've noticed.

Sorry about that. Greg is Basically, the receivers, once they run their initial route, they're not helping their quarterback out. They're not breaking the route off or coming back. They've got to learn how to adjust and make, you know, make plays. Basically you got receivers running away from your quarterback.

If that's the case, stop when you see he's in trouble, come back and help him out, you know, by breaking that route off. And that's something that they're going to learn to have to do that through film. Poor Mason. Backland back. No, once again, he's been busy.

It's not even his fault. The snaps have just been often nowhere near him. So they're going to have to take a timeout. So we'll do the same thing. We will do that.

That was interesting because that was Taylor Waldo, who's a quarterback, kind of defensive end, came in and just did a quick kick, which is smart. It takes up. That's good coaching right there. You're having issues with your snapper.

Maybe your center got hurt, they didn't have the right guy, so they snap it back to him. He takes one step, just kicks it end over end. That was a 40 yard kick with no issues. Great job, good coaching. I like that.

All right, so the Mead offense comes back out from call it their own 25 yard line to try to finish this one off. It's their second quarterback, the sophomore Mitchell Holiday there from these play. Well, I think just as well as Sonics and I would say as he turns and hands off to Terrell, maybe fumble might have been dead by contact. No, I agree with that. He's going backwards on that thing.

And they blew the whistle. Dead referee was right there, did a nice job. I like this officiating crew. I think they've done a nice job tonight. They kept things under control.

They called penalties when they had to. It wasn't excessive. They let them play the game. That's the way you officiate. Enough people get on these guys.

I know, I do basketball and baseball. We get chewed all the time. I like it because at least my one. My wife yells at me, I don't get paid for it. So at least when you're out there with the stripes, you're at least getting a paycheck.

But they've got thick skin, they handled it. I think they've called a nice game. So what you're saying is that's good practice for the extra three or four months of the year. Stay in shape. Yeah.

All right. Second down, 11 from the 26 yard line. Oh, Holiday falls down on his knee. As he turns it, it successfully gets the handoff off somehow, maybe back to the line. Did they step on him?

I think he might have gotten stepped on. Did he get. Yeah, I think. And that hurts. You get one right in the shin, you know, if you're backing up and the center steps back.

That was just a great play, you know, coming up. And again, that was Preston Newcome, 44, that broke through the huddle. You also have Nathan DePaulo, who I think has played a very good football game up there. Ryan berry, defensively number 23, the junior, he's played a good game. This defensive front has shown some some spark.

They changed their offense up and I think it surprised Ferris and they had to make adjustments.

I think once Ferris made the adjustments they did some good things but then they shot themselves in the tootsie. Yeah, that is exactly right Paul. It was a 16 nothing lead for the Mead Panthers before, before Ferris even got a chance to pull their pants up and figure out what was happening. So let's give you your scoring drive updates here. Really quickly right away, first drive of the game, the freshman quarterback for me, Joe Sonicson punched in a touchdown right run from inside the 5 yard line.

Shortly thereafter touchdown pass play action from 11 yards out to Carson Tucker. Then a safety on defense because Ferris was kicking from inside there 10 and Ball went over his head, recovered it inside the end zone. So 16 nothing really quickly. Then in the second quarter rather in the second half a 36 yard field goal up and through and then a touchdown run from Caleb Shawn. I'll tell you what, Paul Ferris, not a bad team, just further along in their development I would say.

Well and I think they had a better attack, they were more diversified, they were able to run the football and both offense and defensive lines were able to dominate. And you know it's interesting when you look at that and games are won in the trenches and I think Ferris has some really nice players there but they just don't have the depth right now. They're trying to build that depth and I think that's what Mead has. They have the depth up front both on the offensive defensive lines and that really showed in this game. Game.

Let's talk about our Lamar outdoor play of the game which is interesting and they're proud supporters of the gsl, they do a great job and we've got one play that was kind of crucial early. Great field position. This was really the best drive of the night for me. They went five plays and 66 yards and it was Sonichen to Carson Tucker on a nice touchdown pass. Here it is, they've got it.

Third down and five from the Ferris 11 yard line line, two receivers split out to the right. Sonicson goes under center, turns, fakes a handoff play action back to the end zone, back left corner, caught for a Mead touchdown and it's hauled in by Carson Tucker. They went to him on the 40 yard pass call and they do it again. Wide open in the back left corner of the end zone. And that, remember that play was set up by an interception.

They left the offense on the South Hill 0, but they'll get it turned around. They'll figure it out and they had some plays, they had opportunities in this game. They just couldn't convert and had way too many penalties and turnovers and that really hurt the Saxons. But there's talent on this football team and they're going to be fine. Who you going to go with with regards to player of the game? All right. Paul Sorensen. I think it's got to be Caleb Shawn, the two way senior, both running back and linebacker. And he made huge plays on both sides of the ball as a running back.

Had a touchdown run in the second half. More importantly had a huge interception in the first quarter that set up one of their scoring drives. Well, that also set up our play of the game because that made it 14 to nothing and kind of really. And then you had the bad SN after that and all of that came within the first eight minutes of the first quarter. So it was really a tsunami of scoring.

You know, Ferris is kind of standing over taking haymakers left and right and that led to that and I think that's absolutely right. He was a great player. Plus on offense he gave him a real jolt. He was not getting tackled by the first guy that hit him. His yards after, after contact yak yards they call.

That was very impressive. Honestly, probably more yards after the catch, the yards after contact than before contact. No. Yeah, I would agree with that. And on the fairest side, I thought, I thought I liked the quarterback, Paxton Page.

He just didn't make big plays in my opinion. But I'm going to go with Cruz Wheeler, the running back because I thought he was the offense for Ferris. He didn't have a lot of room to run, but he did a great job when he had the chance and he basically moved the pile, you know, and just did the very best that he could and he gave Ferris a chance and it just he needs some help from some of his other buddies around him.

They've got to make some plays at wide receiver. The quarterback has to be able to hit guys that were open. They'll go back and look at film and you'll see several wide receivers running wide open down the field that he wasn't able to come off his first look and find the second. That's a maturation process. You're going to find a quarterback and I think Ferris has found a good one.

This young transfer from Oregon City, Paxton Page, along with Arguayo. That's going to be a good combination for them. And you can see the minute they did hook up a couple of times tonight, it just didn't really work out for more than 10 or 15 yards every time. But you could see it was that natural progression, that natural chemistry they have that's going to serve him well in the future, that is. But he also to spread the ball out, sometimes he gets locked into one guy and he had other guys open and that's the process that he's going to need to take to get better and to be a real good quality GSL quarterback.
