All proud to support the gsl. And here we go. We are just about Midway through the 2021 Greater Spokane Lake High School football season and GSL high school football is on the air tonight from me just north of Spokane, this is the Arby's GSL game of the week on 700 ESPN and 105.

3 FM. My name is Greg Talbot. The Hunt de Hayes will join us in just a minute. On call our commentary tonight but for a pregame show interview to kick things off between Lewis and Clark and Mount Spokane the night, we are joined by Mount Spokane's new athletic director, Bobby Lee.

Bobby, you've been on the job for about 10 days. This is a late coming for you. Tell us how you landed here at Mount Spokane. Yeah, today is my 10th day. Yeah, I wasn't looking for a job.

I spoke with a couple people in the area that I really trust and believe and they said you need to take a look at this position. And I got a chance to interview with the committee and the coaches and yeah, just in a line. My wife was fired up about it. We were both fired up. So yeah, I was just very, very fortunate to be where I am right now.

Tell us a little bit about your background at Wazoo with the baseball program. Yeah, I was been a baseball junkie my whole life. Helped me get a college degree and I went to junior college and then I played the last year Eastern Washington had a program. And then my senior year I finished up at WSU and then chased the coaching teaching circuit for a while. Was fortunate to come back and coach at WSU and then moved into the administrative role when Dr.

Ray gave me a chance and just been around athletics my whole life. Well, like you said, you've only been on the job 10 days, so you're still getting integrated to the school. But tell us about how the years going in the building at Mount Spokane. The culture at Mount Spokane is unbelievable. I mean what Darren Nelson did, what Paul Kotzman did, the staff and our new principal, Chelsea Gallagher and it just, they've been great.

I mean people have come by the office, they're fired up, you're here and they're so supportive. And then our coaches, the consistency our coaches have and our Student athletes. I mean I was looking in the banners in the gym yesterday at a volleyball match just going holy cow, this group is incredibly, incredibly successful and they do good things. So for me I'm just trying to carry on the tradition and help out wherever I can. I was going to ask you a little bit about the other fall sports here at Mount Spokane.

How's it going with volleyball and the like? Really good. Volleyball is doing well. I think they finished second in the tournament down in Yakima. Women's soccer is playing extremely well.

Cross country, we have a race at Mountainside Middle School next Wednesday. So yeah, we're just battling along and yeah, it's been really, really enjoyable. Any other big things you would like to promote while you have the free airtime here? I think and God awful, I'm not sure if I can one way or the other. I think we're in the planning stages of the Battle of the Bell is going to get replayed.

We hope that's going to happen. So we've been doing a bunch of stuff like that and yeah, I just. I'm so thankful to be at Mount Spokane High School and the culture there and just do what I can to help in the process. I would be not a good journalist if I didn't ask for a little more information. What can you tell us about maybe the remade up Battle of the Bell?

I don't have a specific date yet but I think it's in process. I don't want to be the one that's talking about but I know the administration and both institutions I visited with John Barrington and the district office were we're trying our darndest because that community event is something that's pretty amazing. So. And I want to see what this place looks like jam packed with Wildcat fans and yeah, it's going to be pretty neat. I think it'd be pretty phenomenal.

So that's. There goes the new Mt. Spokane athletic director Bobby Lee. Ten days on the job and a big game coming up tonight on the radio. He's got to go get ready for it's his Wildcats from Mount Spokane taking on the Tigers of Lewis and Clark.

We are back for another week of our Arby's GSL Game of the Week on 700 ESPN and 105. 3 FM. Tonight it is the Lewis and Clark Tigers taken on the Mount Spokane Wildcats and GSL football.

Two of the teams really in the top tier or two of GSL units here as we approach the midway point of the high school football season. Now that we are into October. Lewis and Clark coming into this game with a 2 and 2 record. They got wins against Ridgeline and Ferris. Not a people, not a lot of people expecting them to beat the Saxons last week.

Mount Spokane coming into this game they've only played three games. Two wins against Cheney and Ridgeline and a brutal loss, a close one to Central Valley last week. A little bit of what you can expect tonight. We are excited to have the Lewis and Clark Tigers on the radio just because of how different they look than what you might have seen around this time last year if we had been playing fall football. Lewis and Clark under their head coach Joe Ireland is now a triple option team which again is surprising.

You don't see a lot of teams turning to the triple option in 2021 when it comes to football, but they made the decision that they want to be a program based football team and not one that relies on individual players week in and week out. Other things to take a look about with Lewis and Clark. They lost to CV but they beat Ferris 28 to 6 last week. So that pretty squarely puts Lewis and Clark in the top tier of teams in the gsl. Big players to watch for.

We'll be talking about that with the Hunter Hayes in just a minute but boy you got to watch out for Charles Northern, the running back Matt Hare and their star wide receiver Tyler Jones. Over on the Mount Spokane side the night. You have got to be looking for this offense. Even though they run the spread, they do a lot of running. They're kind of a jet sweep based offense team.

They're still averaging almost 38 points per game through their first three games of the season. These guys are just phenomenal. We're going to be watching out for Blake Spear, the wide receivers Jordan Sands and Aiden Prado. Both of the guys guys have college offers. The defense though for Mount Spokane just as good as their offense.

Even though they lost to Central Valley last week, they held Seavi to negative rushing yards and CV has one of the best offenses in the gsl. So a phenomenal run defense on the side of Mount Spokane and a great run offense on the side of Lewis and Clark. So that is going to be the big matchup they are watching tonight. As for where we are, a beautiful night under the lights here up at Union Stadium just north of the city in Meadow. Only its first full year of operation and only the first full season of fall high school football that we have had.

But boy, you've been around Spokane in your car the last couple weeks, right? The the leaves are changing, it's getting darker at night and it really feels like fall high school football has made its return. Really Tonight this is a phenomenal atmosphere, little briskness in the air. Fans are filing into the Silver Stadium here north of the city and we are just about ready to bring you some high school football on your radio Tonight. We will take a quick break.

Before we talk about this game tonight, let's give you a look at what's happening around the rest of the Greater Spokane League. We do have a lot of games and a lot of league games tonight. Starting off with the East Valley at North Central. Not far from here, Clarkston at Rogers, going head to head, a fun game down South West Valley at Pullman. That should be a good one.

Othello and Cela. That's a classic matchup of two of the smaller schools in the area. Larry Weir, the Goat is out with SWX tonight. He's broadcasting U High against Central Valley. Great rivalry game out in the Valley.

That one should be a slobber knocker tonight. Elsewhere, Mead is at Cheney. Of course, Mead gonna be the favorites in that one considering what we saw at a Cheney a couple weeks ago and they lost to U High. The other big game the night is across state lines. Ferris at Coeur d'.

Alene. That one should be a lot of fun. Hopefully Coeur d' Alene is not in those gross alternate red uniforms. They introduced those a couple years ago. Don't know why they switched that up.

Anyway, time to now bring in Dehante Hayes, former Eastern star. He's filling in for the great Paul Sorensen the night. Dehante, first of all, great to have you on this radio station. You made so many plays on as an Eastern Eagle. Oh, yeah.

It's an honor honestly to be here. It's something that I've definitely aspired to be since I was a young kid and I'm just very honored to be here in general. All right, the Hunte. Well, Lewis and Clark, Mount Spokane that we've got your keys to the game. Tell us what we're looking for.

Alrighty. So the keys for the game for Mount Spokane is that they have to get LC's option offense off the field in order to control the clock. That option offense could definitely wind down the clock and make things very hectic for them. They got to get Blake Spears going pretty early. He had a monsters game last week.

In order to make that happen again today, that would be a huge help for their offense. 150 all purpose yards. Oh yeah, amazing. And they have to take the points where they can get them, including field goals by their stud kicker. Those are some pretty big things for Mount Spokane.

Now going over to lc. They have to run the clock, use the option to their benefit. They really have to make sure that Mead does not or Mouse Spokane does not have an option here. Also they need to throw enough to stay balanced. They don't want to continue to run the same thing throughout the duration of the game.

They want to make sure that they mix it up on them to where it does not become easy for the defensive coordinator. Lastly, they have to take a take advantage of Mouse Spokane. Mouse Spokane is out here with only 26 players tonight due to a bunch of players being uneligible obviously. And that's just something that, that they're going to have to take advantage of and make them tired and make them just wear them out during the game. Yeah.

What I would say to haunting kind of picking up on your keys here is in a normal week, in a normal year, Mount Spokane is the favorite tonight. But Lewis and Clark has more kids this year because again Mount Spokane is down to like 26, 30 kids on varsity tonight. And Lewis and Clark, you know this is a first year option offense. They might not know exactly what they're doing but defending the option when you've spent all year defending the spread is tough. Oh yeah.

I can definitely just look out here and see just from based off the pre game right now how LC has a whole line of players ready to go in while Mount Spokane is struggling just to even have enough guys to stand on the sideline while they have their offensive defense out there at the same time. So it's going to be something interesting to watch with the, with the lack of players. But if they they're in good shape and they're ready to go then they can definitely pull this off. We are about 15 minutes away from kickoff. We'll take another break here on the pregame show.

Greg Talbot and Dehante Hayes with you here getting ready for kickoff just a little bit more than 10 minutes away between Lewis and Clark in Mount Spokane. Let's go ahead and give you a look at the starting lineup tonight for Mount Spokane. Here's what we'll be seeing out of the Wildcats.

A lot like their counterparts across the city with Meadows, they have big guys on the line. Jace Barrington, Ethan Williamson, Jalen Pearson, Mitchell Campbell and Noah Hibbert make up their offensive line and here's a look at their skill players. Blake Spear lines up in the slot as does Tyler Alma. Their fullback is Zeke Miller. Two amazing receivers as far as the GSL goes in.

Aiden Prado and resume and the quarterback is Kellen Flanagan. Dante looking at their offense. We've talked a little bit about these players to watch. Who's really jumping out at you from Mount Spokane? So for Mouseball Cam we got QB Kellen Flanagan.

He's a dual threat quarterback who can not only make plays on his feet but also through the air and slings a really nice deep ball. We also have running back Blake spear. He had 150 all purpose yards last week meaning he can be a big threat in the backfield or lining up our slot wide receiver. And we also have the wide receiver Jordan Sands who was first team all league last year and also holds a couple scholarship offers as well. Yeah, Jordan Sands been offered by Benedictine University and Whitworth.

He was not starting last week, he will be starting tonight. He is really a phenomenal player. Six foot two and like we said to Hunt a he's a first team all GSL last year. Oh yeah. Take a look here at the Mount Spokane defense.

A lot of same names. Ethan Williamson on the line along with Mitchell Campbell and Bryson Sturt Stanger. Linebackers Jackson Claire and Zeke Miller. Another two way player, Daniel Shupp, Jackson Kink, Carson Kelly, Aiden Prado, Ethan Carroll and Jarrett Dotson rounded out but like you said, only 22, 23, 24, 25 guys on this varsity roster tonight. How does that impact guys who have to go both ways?

It makes it very tough for you honestly if you're not one of the most conditioned guys, especially if you're not someone who has been taking extra reps and you're just randomly thrown in to play both sides of the ball. It can definitely take a toll on your body as this game wears on and going against the option team like LC is, it could be something that can make it to where this game is a drag for you as a player and something that can definitely hurt you in the end of the game, especially if you're a Mt. Spokane defender and you've got to stay on the field a long time with that Lewis and Clark option. Right? Option Teams can definitely drag the game on, making it to where a normal team, three and out is not the same.

If they just go down and get a couple yards, three to four yards, every single time they run that ball, it can make this game a long day. For the me defense. For the Matt's book. You got it. They share a stadium.

They share the stadium. We got a big guy. All right, let's take a look at the Lewis and Clark starting lineup tonight. On offense, Chase Richardson is the center. He's flanked on the offensive line by Ben Sherman, Miles Raya, Blake Mitchell and Mason Smith.

Taking a look at some of their other key players, Mason Hubble, Joey Farah. Against Hilburn, they've got a couple really strong linebacker, rather running back slash wide receivers. Charles Northern is their quarterback. Max Meyer and Matt here lineup as running backs as well. So it's interesting in comparison to Mount Spokane to Hanse, Lewis and Clark has about 10 guys who touch the ball.

Oh, yeah. It's going to be amazing. Honestly, looking at them, especially with having the quarterback Charles Northern as their wide receiver last year. It's going to definitely change the game because that puts him as a threat of having the ball in his hands. Wide receivers are normally known for being someone who could run the ball very, very well after the catch.

And with him being able to take it direct from snap, that can definitely change the game for them. And the Tigers defense. Zach Hutton, Peter Vermeer, Gabe Daniel, the defensive tackle, Ben Schuerman is a two way player. He's at the DT on the other side. Matt here, one of the running backs, lines up at middle linebacker alongside Gavin Kolarski and Elijah Soder.

Gan Silburn, Max Meyer, Tommy Mickelson and Stephen Cox make up their secondary. All right, that's a look at the starting lineups. We'll take one more break here on the pregame show. They have the quarterback taking the ball a bit. The mouse book hand also had the quarterback throwing some deep balls so we might see some high flyers coming out today and it's just a matter of where the ride receivers going to get it. So I'm very excited to see what happens here. I would say if the Wildcats had a full roster they would have a pretty significant advantage tonight, but seeing that they're down to like 25 kids against an option offense I'm not so sure is definitely going to come down to stopping the option.

That's what's going to make them be in the best shape and the most possible way for them to be able to play this game for a full four quarters and be successful with that. Lewis and Clark in Mount Spokane just kicked off tonight from Union Stadium in me the Papa Murphy's kickoff changed the way you pizza was run back by Tyler Almigott all the up to the 39. No, make that the 43 yard line. So pretty amazing field position here for Mount Spokane. Going left to right across your radio dial in their navy helmets and gray uniforms with white pants. First nap of the aim goes to Kellen Flanagan.

He throws left, swings it off to the left side. That one is hauled in by Jordan Campbell, his number two wide receiver. He's between the hatches for a gain of 8 yards and that is a pretty good two plays to start this game for them to hunt a Hayes exactly the momentum they need starting this game takes their mind off of them having a lack of players here, getting a good return and plus a nice little screen set up.

It's perfect. That's exactly what they need to start this game off. All right, so Kellen Flanagan is their senior quarterback. He's a tool threat guy. He's fast, but he loves to spread it around pretty big.

Six foot one, £190 and a righty. He comes out in the shotgun with run running back off to his right, surveys the Lewis and Clark defense in their white jerseys and black helmets with orange pants. That's classic lc. They send a man in motion. It's a handoff to Tyler Alm.

He bounces up the middle. He got stopped at the 50 for a gain of one yard. He'll be short. Third down and two coming up. Wonderful to see so many people in the stands tonight.

Lewis and Clark fans on the far side of the field in what is clearly kind of an 80s night theme. They're all dressed up in neon colors here on the Mount Spokane side. It is breast cancer awareness night. Everyone wearing pink. You love to see it.

All right, third down and two for the Wildcats coming out on their first drive of the game. Three receivers split to the near side, one to the far side. Four down lineman on defense for Lewis and Clark. Flanagan drops back, takes the snap, throws over the middle. That one is hauled in for a David Orthodontics.

First down, it's Tyler Ohm. He's got it at the 45. Sharp ball there. Throw. Sharp ball, sharp throw.

Great catch. That's how you move the sticks right there on third down. Keep the momentum rolling for Mount Spokane. Love it. Now Tyler Alm, he tweaked the calf a couple of weeks ago.

People come thought coming into this game to hunt a. He might not be 100%. He looks 100%. Mm. That's what happens when you're ready to go for your team.

Nice to see them throwing the ball to him too. He's usually more of an inside runner in their offense, but the fact that they're spreading it out, that's going to make Lewis and Clark stay on their toes. All right, So a new first down for Mount Spokane. They're on the right side of the 50. They're on the Lewis and Clark 44 yard line.

Flanagan drops back. They're sending everyone deep. They send him out down the sideline. It's Aiden Prado and it's halted at the 15 yard line before he's pushed out of bounds for a big gain. And another David Orthodontics first down.

No surprise there. That's exact play that while I was watching him work on during warm ups, he just keep on rolling, keep on rolling. That's a great play by the quarterback there. Great ball. And another great catch by the wide receiver.

Yeah. Hauled in by Aiden Prado. He's one of their two receivers that out of offers they're both been offered, he and Jordan Sands by both Benedict and University and locally Whitworth. Nice, nice. Excited to see them watch.

Make more plays as well. All right, two receivers split out each way for Flannigan. He's got a guy in the backfield, sends Tyler Almond motion. They swing it back on the other side of the fullback going the other way. That one's gone up the middle to Ethan Carroll.

He gets inside the 10 for a moderate gain, maybe 5 yards. I'm not going to lie to you, Greg. I thought that was going all the way. The entire defense started to shift over as soon as he handed that ball off. It kind of shook me up a little bit too.

But he happened to get stopped. That's a good stop by OC There because he was definitely going to go home on that one. I think you're right. Coming into this game, obviously we know that Mount Spokane likes to run the jet sweep. Usually they don't send it back the other way on a fake though.

Those are some of those things you got to throw in when you're lacking players. You need to get points on the board. Quick and Easy gain a 6 yards, second down and four. Flanagan comes out of the gun and they go up the middle of Tyler. All linebackers got a hand, let him.

He dives down inside the 10 yard line, maybe got a yard out of it. It's going to bring up another third down and two from inside the 10. That's a very risky player there. I'm not going to lie running that same play back like that. Even though he handed it off and didn't have him come back on the reverse.

That could have ended up badly because the linebackers were there. There's a TFL there that was missed. All right, so Flanagan comes out from the near sideline. Just got the play call from his head coach, Terry Clore. 845 to go here in the first quarter.

First drive of the game for Mount Spokane. They've got it down to the Lewis and Clark seven yard line. They've got to get down up to the five. It's third down and two, they send another man in motion and Flanagan's gonna fake it to him. He'll keep it, go up the middle toward the five yard line.

He pushes forward. He's got a name in orthodontics. First down. It'll be first and goal from inside the five for the Wildcats. I love what I'm seeing here from Kellen.

He came out here and he put. He's putting the team on his back here. He threw three great passes. He's handing the ball off and he's running the ball. He go right into that gap and just made sure that there was no way anyone's gonna bring him down unless he was getting that first down first.

Flanagan, we. When you talk to his coaches this week on the Mount Spokane coaching staff, they say the thing they love about him most is that he can really sling it. He's really got an arm on him. He's got good touch. They see he can work on finding receivers on the run, but he has not had to yet.

All right, they're down to the four yard line. First and goal. Empty set. Three receivers to the left and two to the right for Flanagan. Lewis and Clark defense all spread out, trying to prevent the first drive.

Touchdown. It's a sweep along the left side to Tyler Alm. He cuts south to north and he's into the end zone. First drive of the game from Outspoken. They punch it in for a touchdown.

That's how you answer him back right there. Everyone's talking that. We're all talking about how many players they got. But the offense came out here and showed they didn't. They don't need 100 players in order to make plays out there.

That was great. And an even better block by that wide receiver right there. Make sure he sealed off that defender. And out comes Mount Spokane's kicker here, Ethan Mikulski. This is one of the more highly recruited kicking prospects in the state of Washington.

We're talking about him a little bit more as the game goes on. Here's the snap and the kick for the PAT. It is up and it is good. 750 to go here. 7 nothing.

Mount Spokane. That happened pretty fast there to Hante that. I'm not surprised. I'm not saying surprised. That's why I said I didn't want to put any team above another because I knew that they were going to come out here with the chip on their shoulder.

They have something to prove here. Everyone's worried about how many players they got. You look over there. That's a little bit intimidating. Sometimes they're like, it doesn't matter.

All right, your STCU touchdown drive. Recap. Mount Spokane did it in just about 4 minutes and 10 seconds. They went 60 yards and it was Tyler Alm who punched it in. All right, here's the kickoff with Lewis and Clark.

They receive it down at the 10 yard line against Hilburn. Gets it right to the 15. He goes back the other way. He's got the Mount Spokane defense right on the left side. He goes all the way past the 20, past the 30, up to around the 35 yard line before he's pushed out.

Okay, the Hunte good special teams from both units. Yeah, it was looking really pretty. I was a little bit scared there for a little bit as he started running backwards. They always tell you never to run backwards. Went about 10 yards back, but I mean he gained all the yards back and got right where they needed to be in order to start off a great drive here.

So I'm ready. I'm excited to see what they do here. All right, so 7:30 to go here in the first quarter. Mount Spokane scored on their first drive. 60 yards.

They did it with a touchdown from Tyler Alma. Now let's see what Lewis and Clark can do. They send out their six foot, 185 pound junior quarterback Charles Northern and Again, in case you're just joining us, this is a first year triple option scheme offense for Lewis and Clark. Northern comes out, he runs to the right and he cuts his way past a couple of defensive linemen. He keeps it himself.

He's got about three yards out of it. See exact play we were seeing during their warmups over there. He had the option, he had the option available if he wanted to pitch it out or not keep it. He's just showing he's a little bit strong so he's not scared to keep it and that's why he kept it. Yeah.

So Northern was a wide receiver and linebacker on the team last year. He got the quarterback job because of his decision making ability and his running ability also. The coaches wanted a non senior who could grow into this system over a couple of years. And here comes out again under the gun after the gain of four yards. Second down and six for Northern.

He's got one back there with him in the backfield. That'll be a blocking back for him. He goes shoulder first past the 40 yard line, gets about four yards out of it, bringing up third down and two in Northern with back to back keepers to start the drive. That's what we got to stop there. That's what I'm saying about Maxwell can.

In order to keep this game within reach, they have to be able to stop this off this offense because right now they're just getting all the yards they want. It is third down and just a couple, but they're getting too many yards on each carry. Third down and two coming up. This Mount Spokane defense kept Central Valley's running offense to negative rushing yards last week. We'll see if they're able to kind of get this together here.

They only have one deep safety back. The rest of them are crowding the line for third down and two. Here comes Northern. He fakes a handoff, he keeps it, he busts his way through the defense and he's behind the defense. The 30, the 20, the 15, the 10, the 5.

Northern down to the 5 yard line. Man, this quarterback has some wheels on him. Deontay and a late flag comes in. Actually it looks like there might have been a turnover there. Oh, did he fumble that?

Yep. Looks like the great play right there by number one. He came over, hit him from behind, made the ball come out and recovered it. Aiden Prado. Yet now that we're seeing that again, Aiden Prado came up behind him and punched it out after he'd gotten all the way down to the five yard line.

The quarterback, Charles Northern just didn't hold on to it. Dante looked like he was getting a little bit gas on that run. He wasn't expecting to get free like that. And that's a great effort play right there. Man, oh man.

Lewis and Clark had a chance to get right back in this game with with a big home run play. Instead it's a turnover and they'll take over on the five yard line. So now Mountain Spokane pinned inside their own 10. They're taking it between the four and the five on the left hash mark. They lead Lewis and Clark seven nothing midway here through the first quarter.

So Kellen Flanagan comes out under the gun. He turns and hands off to Keane for his second carry of the game. He jolts his way up through a couple of linebackers. He's into the second level. He gets to the 14 yard line for a gain of five.

He had a few yards lined up for him there, ready if he would have just went around that block there, kind of cut it inside to see if you can get something else but end up getting tackled. But, but I mean the momentum's on their side so he can afford to do something like that and make up for something big coming up here in this next play. It's exactly right. They send another wide receiver back onto the field. And Logan Siegel, they've already gone to four or five guys on this Mount Spokane offense.

When we talked to the coaches to Haunted, they said they like to spread it around. They've certainly been spreading it around just in the first couple minutes of this game. Three receivers split out to the right here for Flanagan. He looks very comfortable back there. Take a snap, throws it quickly off to the right.

That one is hauled in for the second time by Tyler Alm. Maybe a gain of two on the play. That'll bring up third down. Flanning is out there looking like the real deal. Very comfortable setting his feet, delivering the ball.

And the wide receivers are making the catch. I love that you point out how they're rotating guys too. They're making sure no one gets too tired out there. Everyone's able to inhale, exhale and go right back out there and make a play. I love it and I think it shows with how comfortable Flanagan looks back there throwing the passage.

He looks like comfy as heck. Looks like he should be back there. All right, third down and two coming up. They got to get up to the 17 yard line. They're going left to right across your radio dial.

Three receivers split out to the right for Flanagan here. Comes linebacker pressure. It's a screenplay. He dumps it off to Zeke Miller. He bounces up his way to the 20 yard line.

That's a first down. Second time it's a run play. This time it's a Damon Orthodontics first down. This is great. They're brewing up something real nice here.

You never know what you're going to get from them. They're mixing in so many different things. They're not really running the same plays too much. Deep balls, quick passes, screens, runs. They're doing it all.

Oh yeah, they're. They have an open playbook here. It's looking really nice. Yeah, Kellen Flanagan had a heck of a game last week too against Central Valley. Almost 300 yards through the air and I don't think he's.

He has one incomplete today and either. No, he is. He is four for four through the air so far. Listen to that student section. Nice to have them back for high school football.

Here's the new first down. Flanagan makes a pass, swings it off to Alm back to the 20 yard line. He's wrapped up by the cornerbacks. No gain on the play. Second and 10.

Lewis and Clark's defense having a hard time making the catches stop the Hante but at least there they held them to no yardage. That was a good pursuit there by both by two players. They vice that made a good tackle and stopped him out the yards and nothing more you can ask for them on that play. Yes. Second down and 10.

No gain on the play. Lewis and Clark has a lot more guys available on the roster tonight. Again Mount Spokane's got 25 guys because of restrictions and Covid and stuff. Good news is they're playing the night and they have a seven nothing lead. Here comes a linebacker blitz on second and 10.

Flanagan slings it out to the far side. That one is hauled in by Daniel Shub. He's got a first down. A demon orthodontics. First down past the 30.

That screens working for them. I don't see why they should go away from that. They should keep on going back to that repeatedly throughout the night. But at different moments when nobody knows what's coming, they brought the linebacker and left that wide receiver wide open on the side. So Mount Spokane began to drive inside their own 10 yard line.

Oh yeah, they're planning and showing them that he can take control of this game and that he is at home and they are at his house. He's showing it on all aspects of the game, whether he's handing it off or throwing some nice screens or even downfield.

Yeah, Flanagan and his counterpart, the Lewis and Clark quarterback, Charles Northern, certainly the two most dynamic players we have seen thus far tonight. All right, here comes Flanagan out of the gun. They're up on their own 32 yard line on the left side of the 50. Lewis and Clark defense, linebackers coming up. They're showing blitz, second and 10.

They send a man in motion. They sweep it back the other way. It's Tyler Alm. He cuts north to south. He's past the 40 yard line.

He's up to the 50 before he's brought down by the kneecaps. Another Demon Orthodontics. First down and again at 16 yards. Yeah, this LC defense out there is looking a little bit lost with this mixed direction that Mount Spokane stone at them and it's looking is looking really good in Mt. Spokane's favor for sure, yeah.

Jet sweep is one thing, but to be able to do it coming back the other way, I mean, if you're a linebacker, how do you defend it? I honestly have no idea. You got to just stay square and just shuffle with your feet and keep your eyes very, very disciplined. I'm sure that they were not expecting this coming into this game for sure. Now Mount Spokane is pretty well renowned for a spread offense with jet sweep, but I have not seen Spokane High school football team be this effective with the misdirection out of the jet sweep in a long time.

And we have another timeout on the field. This one called by Mount Spokane. With 229 here to go in the first quarter, they're leading Lewis and Clark 7 nothing. Okay, so while we have a second here, we do not need to take another commercial break in case you're not a fan of Eastern Washington football, in which case your ears would have perked up. Let's introduce you to Deontay Hayes.

Deontay, so great to have you here. Of course, a former Eastern star. We heard your name being called by the great Larry Weir for years here on the this radio station. Tell us a little bit about what you've been up to since you left college. Well, since I left college, I trained for a little while until Covid happened.

I started to find my way in the world and other aspects. I started working with adults with developmental disabilities. It's something I've been doing for the past year and a half. I've also found a liking to modeling and just being a social media influencer. So that's something that I've also been doing for the last year actually.

It's something that I'm enjoying and I'm meeting a lot of people, being able to branch out into the world and just see a lot of different things. And speaking of Eastern football, back on this radio station, tomorrow night against Montana. That game should be fun. You'll be there, right? Oh, yes, I'm definitely going to be there.

Probably won't be in this setting though. No, that'll be Larry and Paul. They'll be back with you tomorrow night. Meanwhile, back on the field, seven nothing. Mount Spokane on top of Lewis and Clark and the Wildcats right at the midfield there at the 50 yard line with a first and 10 driving left to right.

Here comes a snap. Flanagan makes a good catch on a high snap. He fires it down the field. That one is hauled in by Eagle down to the 25 yard line and he makes his way down to the 20 that was not a great pass. He went up and brought it down for a gain of 25 yards in a David Orthodontics first down.

Not a great pass. But when the riders were makes it. You don't really. You don't. You don't really think about the pass after he catches that and you get a first down all the way on the opposite side of the field.

Second catch of the game already for Logan Siegel, a guy who has not been a huge contributor this year, but clearly they're going out of their way to integrate him tonight. Oh yeah, I can see it. He's doing great. Just keeps on catching the ball when it goes his way. All right, two receivers split out to each side for Flannigan.

All the way down. Now the Lewis and Clark 25 yard line. They turn and give to Tyler Alm. He goes shoulder first all the way down to the man, the 10 yard line. Looks like he got a 9 or 10 on that play.

We'll get the call in just a second on whether or not that's a first down. Mouseball Gan is playing with a chip on their shoulder. You can just see by the way he's running that ball. How can you tell? The way he just cut through the gap and lowered his shoulder and the linebacker tried to hit him.

He's taking on a bigger linebacker that from the size point of view, you can definitely see he's way bigger than him. Lowering his shoulder on him and let him know that this first down is something that I need to get. No, he didn't get it. They did not get the first down. It's going to be second down in inches here for the Wildcats.

Now down to the Lewis and Clark 11 yard line for the second straight drive. Here comes Flanagan, two guys in the slot to the right. He's flanked by Tyler Alm in the backfield. On the new second down, the hand off the middle to Daniel Shuff. He's down inside the five for another first down.

They continue to roll. I take it back. That was actually a handoff to number 47 on their roster, Jackson King. So they've now got two fullbacks rotating in. I'll tell you what, this actually makes sense to haunt it considering how small their roster is.

They've got to rotate guys in. That's the smartest thing you can do. You're keeping your. You're keeping your players from getting too tired and you're allowing them to be able to play the full longevity of the game. New first and goal from inside the five yard line.

They go back to Jackson Kink. He goes shoulder first. He's down to the one stop short of the goal line. It'll be second down and that'll take us to 30 seconds to play in the quarter. They might want to get one more playoff here, but they don't have to.

So 30 seconds on the play clock, 22 seconds on the game clock. Would not be surprised to see Mount Spokane take this down to the end of the quarter. So I wouldn't be surprised here at all. All right, so 12 minutes on the second quarter clock. A one touchdown lead for Mount Spokane.

They're about to try to punch in it again from between the one and the two yard line. The right handed quarterback, Kellen Flanagan comes back out under the gun. He turns in hands up at the middle of Jackson Kirk. For the third straight play, he's behind his blockers and right up the middle and into the end zone. It's 13 nothing Wildcats.

That, that. I respect it. I respect it. They're keeping the momentum going, they're keeping themselves going because I know once gets to the third and fourth quarters might be a little bit of a drag, but they're doing their thing. Oh wait, I take it back.

The referees put their hands up in the air. One of them had it called the touchdown and their side judge came in and waved him off after he'd put his hands in the air. Apparently they're going to take that touchdown back. Okay, did not see that one coming. Now it's third and goal from the one.

You don't usually see that the Hante. I honestly can say I was blown away by that because it looked like a legit touchdown yards in. Yeah, he was in the end zone. Okay, so third and goal from the one. They're going to try to do this again.

Flanagan puts his hands down, he's looking for low snap. He gets a high snap instead he fakes it to Kirk. He takes it himself right on the left side, goes into a brand and the QB sneak is in for a touchdown. Now it's 13 nothing, Mount Spokane. That's well deserved by Flanigan.

He controlled this entire drive. He controlled the entire drive and made sure that his team felt great going into that end zone. So he deserved that touchdown. Nice. Flanigan is really a dynamic as a quarterback, don't you think?

Oh, I believe it. He definitely has not had of one incomplete pass yet. He's controlling this game. He's doing what he needs to do to make this game their win. Yeah, he's 6 for 6 or 7 for 7 and he's made a couple.

Actually no, he has only one incomplete pass. But I'll tell you what, they've just been phenomenal. Here's the kick from Mount Spokane. It's no good. It's blocked coming in.

Sam Torre, the two way player, he knocks it down. So he keeps the score 13 nothing with 1105 to go until halftime. All Right, the Hante, Hayes, Lewis and Clark here, their offense had a chance to get going on the last drive. The problem is they turned it over on a quarterback fumble. Now all of a sudden they're down two touchdowns.

They got to get going. Yeah, I believe what the, what they have to do over there, lc is they really have to put the ball in somebody else's hands as well. The quarterback took the ball three times for carries and on that last one you can definitely see that he was getting a little bit gas there early and that's the reason why for the turnover there. He got hawked on behind and came got stripped. That said, their quarterback Charles Northern's been awfully good.

Yeah, I don't put him past at all. He looks like he's comfortable with the ball in his hands. However, we have to secure that ball if you're going to be running because that could have been a touchdown there, but it decided it turned out to be a turnover. I think they should continue doing what they're doing. They put the ball in other people's hands. They had a couple options there, especially when they ran out in the option. The pitch man was open, but quarterback kept it. He's showing his strength there on all three carries.

He was showing he can keep the ball. I think it was kind of a good idea for them to do that because it makes Mount Spotify. Can't think about who's going to keep the ball this time. All right, the Tigers in Their classic uniforms, orange pants, white jerseys, black helmets. Charles Northern, the right handed quarterback, comes out under the gun.

He stand at a 15. They snap it from the 20. He turns and hands off against Hillburn and the Mount Spokane defensive line gobbles him up for a gain of 2. High snap there. Kind of threw off his handoff definitely plays in a big factor there.

And Mouse Spokane is definitely countering off of that. Love it. So he Mount Spokane and me to both of the schools in this district this year. Big defensive lines. Those guys look like men to haunt.

Oh yeah, they do. I'm looking down there like I would not want to be lining up against them for sure. Not if you're a South Hill running back, right? Not at all. Not at all.

All right. Gain a one on the play. Second down and nine. One receiver split out to each side. Two wing backs for the triple option for Lewis and Clark and Hilburn in the backfield.

Here comes the pitch to Northern. He gets back to to the line of scrimmage and powers forward with a shoulder. He gets a couple of guys to push and pass the 25. Gets a gain of about four yards. It's going to be third down and three here.

Northern continues off his strength here when he carries that ball. Dragon piles and making sure he gets extra yards every time he carries the ball. He's got to make sure that he's able to do that for all the next three quarters. I'll tell you what, for a triple option team, they've only pitched it once. They're given Northern most of the carries.

Oh yeah, the quarterback is doing a lot. Six feet tall, 185 pounds. His first year as a quarterback. He was a wide receiver for them last year. High snap on third down.

He has a lead blocker, he powers forward and he's got the David Orthodontics. First down on the left half mark to the 32. It's another good, another good run by him. It's look, it's looking really good for him with the ball in his hands. However, I want to see the ball going to some other guys hands as well.

I was gonna say the lead blocker for him. There was a guy we're expecting to see get a lot of carries tonight. Matt Hair. Yeah, I was just looking at him as he was lining up. Big guy, big, big guy.

I'm ready to see him run the ball and see how much he can. He could put the heart on some other guys. And I'll tell you what, he's a running back. He's 6ft tall and 220 pounds. Yeah, I can see it just from looking up here.

He overshot his man. Pass intended for Tyler Jones. Yeah, I was a very tough past there. Honestly, there was no reason to throw an incomplete pass on that one. But, you know, probably lights.

I'll give him the lights. And he had. It's not like he was being that pressured. He had a little time to throw. Yeah, I think he's a little bit.

He. You see how he kind of wanted to jump there when that snap. He's not getting a consistent snap from the center there. And that's what's making him throw off because he got up on his tippy toes when he caught the pass. And he adjusted the ball as well also.

But I would definitely, definitely, like I said, like to see the ball in somebody else's hand. It's going to be a long game for him to continue to take all these tackles, stop into the swing indoors at the corner of Francis and Monroe before or after the game to meet, eat and have fun. All right, so their best receiver, Tyler Jones, split to the far side of the field is Northern, comes back out for a new first down and 10. He takes a high snap and said, no, it's the Wildcat. They brought in Gins Hilburn out of the wide receiver spot for that play. He gets to the far sideline, can't turn the corner. No gain on the play.

It'll be second and 10. Interesting to see them use the Wildcats. I'd have to applaud him there though, because like I said earlier, the center is struggling to get that ball down for the for whoever's back there catching the snaps. It's always a high snap and when you're trying to catch the ball and you have to jump every single time it throws you off a little bit. There was no other way for him to go on that play but backwards and not even no gain on the play and said they're going to mark them for a loss of two.

So second down and 12 coming up. They've got to get across the 50 all the way down to the amount Spokane 45 yard line, one receiver split out to each side here for Charles Northern. They brought the QB back in the game. It's a high snap. He keeps it again and gets a gain of three back to the original line of scrimmage.

So third down and 10 coming up. I'd say take a shot here for sure we got to get a pass going. His first pass was incomplete because he's probably got to warm up a little bit more. But if he gets a nice ball going here even throwing at the sticks I think it'll be something big for them. Gotta think that they're going to be looking for Tyler Jones I I as they should.

He's 63 with a big catch radius. He's definitely someone who's still going to of the ball. Huge catch radius. They love him in six foot three, by the way. Only a sophomore so he's got guts.

Being in the right place at the right time and you could pick up six yards that's huge for your team. And it looks like they're going to send out their punt unit and yes they are. So it'll be Wilson hash, the sophomore 6 foot 1 kicker to put this one in the air. Back to Mount Spokane who already leads 13 nothing and Aiden Prado one of their two star wide receivers. Receivers is waiting to receive it back at the 12 yard line.

Here's the kick in the air from left to right across your radio dial. Prado waiting at the 10, he calls for a fair catch. That one takes a decent bounce and it's tipped in touchdown by Lewis and Clark inside the Mt. Spokane five yard line. So not great field position here for the Wildcats but you know the haunted they started their last drive at the five.

They went 95 yards. Yeah. And I could definitely see what the returner did there. He noticed that the ball was floating a bit, little bit too much in the air and the, and the people on pump are flying in the field also. Knowing that you're going to be a big part of this offense, I wouldn't want to go out there and waste a lot of energy on punt return.

Flanagan, right. He's 6 foot 1, 190 pounds, but he looks taller. They send a man in motion behind him. They go up the middle. It's Tyler Ohm.

He's already got a touchdown. He stays on his feet past the safeties. He's up to the 15 yard line for Damon Orthodontics. First down. This offensive line for Mouse Spokane is moving this defensive line easily.

The gap there was so big I could have easily walked right through that. And we said at the beginning of the game that Tyler Alm recently tweaked the calf. We would have no idea. He's definitely back to 100. Oh, he's looking amazing out there.

He. The way he read that gap and just burst for his. For the amount of yards he needed right there to get that first down. I'm liking What I see from him. So we've seen a lot of Tyler Alm.

We've seen a lot of guys like Jackson Kink and Zeke Miller and Aiden Prado. We have not yet seen Blake Spear or Jordan. Sam's really make a catch. New first and 10. Flanagan has an open backfield.

We've got five wide receivers split out. Throws to the far side. It's Tyler Alm again. He's up to about the 27 yard line. He's close to the chains.

Not sure if he got a first down. He might be a yard short. He's keeping the. He's keeping the team rolling right now and he's doing a good job of it as well. I like the connection at the quarterback and him have.

It's looking great. A little bit of a safety blanket, right? But it doesn't matter because it was always there for more than five yards. Oh, yeah. And.

And for someone to cat to catch an out like that and be able to turn it up for that many yards. That's nice. Oh, I'll tell you what, for a guy who's pretty big, almost 511, 185, he certainly has some north south speed, right? He can get north south. Oh, yeah.

He has some grit to him, too. Second down and one. Another empty set here for Flanagan. Three receivers split to the near side. High snap.

He steps back, throws to the near sideline and overshot his man. He was going back to Carson Kelly. That would have been his second catch if he hadn't overshot him. Third and one coming up. Yeah, he definitely just tried to throw that one away.

He was getting pressure quite a bit. You can just tell he threw it off his back foot. He wanted to go straight out of bounds. Listen to that Mount Spokane studio section. HUD has been so long since we've had this many people cheering like this in a football stadium.

It's just the best. Oh, yeah. Third down and one coming up here. Mount Spokane going right to left. They've only got a yard to go.

Here comes the snap. They run the jet sweep. It's keen. He's up the middle and it looks like he got the first down by about half a yard. That'll move the chains.

Can you move chains? That's all they need. Just continue to move the chains. That's a big hit though, there by that moves at the linebacker that came up and made that hit. That's a good play.

And plays like that, hits like that is things that can definitely shift this game over. You don't have that many guys from Mount Spokane, you continue to keep on hitting them, hitting them, hitting them, eventually those hits are going to definitely start to wear on them. Normally when you go into a game, you know that a quarterback has a key guy, but right now he's throwing it all over the place. Yeah, I'm looking at their stat chart from these first couple of weeks. It looks like they've got now like 12 to 15 guys who have touched the ball. Oh yeah, that's what you like to see from a quarterback too. So he's versatile with his wide receivers.

All right, second down and 10 and three receivers split out to the left side for Flanagan. He turns and hands off the alm. He's taken down by the ankles by a defensive lineman who caught him coming back the other way. Stops him for a gain of three. I'm not gonna lie here.

I would like to see them just do some regular power, some regular handoffs, some zone, see what their running backs can do. For sure, keep them honest. Yeah, definitely. Because we're just running the same couple plays over and over again. Eventually this LC defense going to start clicking and it might turn into a long day for Mt.

Spokane. And I'll tell you, even though Mt. Spokane has a 13 nothing lead, it's not like the Lewis and Clark offense hasn't been pretty good. They've been picking up first downs. They nearly had a touchdown on their first drive.

I think the Tigers offense is eventually going to break one. Oh yeah. As soon as they get Comfortable. They'll be right where they need to be. All right.

Third down and seven coming up here for Mount Spokane. They've been picking up firsts all game. Let's see if they can do it again. Here they send Keen in motion. Flanagan steps up, throw to the left side.

And it's off the hands of someone coming out of the secondary. Oh, man. So nearly intercepted by Tommy Mickelson. He had it in his paws to Hante. Oh, yeah.

That ball was a little bit under thrown. And the wide receiver was. Wasn't even ready for it. He didn't even get out of his break yet. The ball was ready there.

Mickelson totally jumped it. It just. He couldn't bring it in. If he would have caught that, I'm pretty sure would. He went for six.

I've been saying that option play was open the entire day. He's been, he's been holding on to it, not really wanting to pitch it. He's been seeing something different down there on the field, which I 100 get. Wow. Okay, holding on the Lewis and Clark offense, but that flag came in from the secondary referee.

Not something you normally see. And now here comes Yep, there's the call again. It is against loose and Clark. You don't usually see holding calls come from behind a secondary to Hanta. That's kind of a weird move.

Yeah, it's definitely a little bit out of the ordinary. He was pretty far away to to make that call, but that's a huge, huge turndown for the LC offense here. They were just starting to get their momentum going with that nice little speed option play they just ran. Yep, that was a gain of 7 or 8 yards for the Tigers all of a Sudden out of the option offense now. They've got to go.

Second down and 13. So hard to make up more than 10 yards from the option. Once you get behind the of sticks, you're out of luck. Yeah, it's so hard, especially. Oh, man, they got it here, though.

I believe in them. All right, second down and 13. Deontay believes in the Tigers. Two minutes to go in the half. They're trying to punch it in and make up this 13 nothing deficit.

Here comes Northern. He takes the snap, gets pushed forward by a defender, he's taken down and then he's at the 33 yard line. He gets four yards out of it. Third down and nine coming up. The biggest key to this offense, they have to get their, their center to, to be zoned into what's going on right now with the offense.

As you can see there, that was literally a false start. But that didn't call. The ball was a snapchat and the entire offense is moving and we're getting high snaps, false starts and all this. Once they all get in together as one full team, they'll be able to get rolling. Well, if Elsie wants to cut into this deficit, they're gonna have to take a shot here.

You can't get down the field in 80 seconds running the ball unless you break a home run. Let's see what they do here. On third down and nine, only a fullback in behind for Northern. He takes the snap, hands it off to his fullback, Matt Hare, and a flag comes in. We just talked about this false start on the offense right after they made up yardage.

Oh yeah, this is hurting them. Shooting them right, shooting themselves right in the foot. They get a couple plus plays and they start going in the wrong direction. They had about a 60 yard run that turned into a fumble on their first drive. Since then, not a lot happening for the Tigers, not a lot at all.

But you know, they could just be a second half team. Come out here, just. They just made us need to go recoup, get some things going. Well, they finally made a stop against the Mt. Spokane offense.

So they can make a couple more, couple more stops, they'll stay in this game. Exactly. That's a couple steps in the right direction for them. All right after the penalty. Third down and 14 coming up for LC.

They're on their own 30 yard line. They got to get up the. Actually, they're on their own 28. They got to get up to the 42. Here comes the snap.

It's a handoff right to Matt Hair, their big Running back and he gets actually stuffed for a loss of yardage on the play. Big defensive line for the Wildcats was there. That's going to bring up fourth down and 15 in a major punting situation. Mouse spoke hands looking good on defense as they have all night. As long as they continue to roll, hydrate up and continue to keep their, their foot on the pedal, then this is going to be a game where Mouse McAne is able to blow them out of the waters.

All right, it looks like a timeout on the field taken here by Lewis and Clark. Can't blame them. 105 to go here in the second quarter. 13 nothing our score. We'll get ready for the halftime show in just a minute.

In fact 65 seconds of game time. But to Hante here as we close out the second quarter of the four units, right, Offense, defense, offense, defense. Which unit has been most impressive that you've seen? I have to say that the mouseball can offense is looking really good out there. The control on the defense of LC and making them do whatever they want them to do.

The offensive line is getting off the ball, pushing the defensive line around and making the run game just looks tremendous for them. It looks great. MVP so far. Kellen Flanagan. Oh, definitely.

He's been phenomenal. All right. Lewis and Clark brings their punt unit back out on the field and man their, their, their offense had a couple big plays that all got called back and as they get ready to close out the first half, their coaches are not going to be happy.

Wilson hash back to kick from his own 15 yard line. And it looks like Aiden Prado for Mount Spokane on the 30 on the right side of the field. It's a good snap. That kick is away. Prado goes between the hash marks.

He's going to let this one drop at the 40 yard line. Lewis and Clark touches it down at the 38. So still pretty good field position for Mt. Spokane from their own 38 yard line with a minute to go. That's potentially enough time to haunt a.

That's plenty of time. They don't need too much, too much more time than that. And they have one timeout left as well. So if they really want to go down and score, they can utilize that timeout and the sidelines to stop the clock and make some happen here. Yeah, especially seeing he's overshot a couple of guys.

But, but Flanagan loves to sling it deep. Yeah, and it one of them are going to connect again. He was hitting them in in the first quarter. The Sin Cordy gone a Little dry on the deep ball, but I can guarantee he's going to come back to it here soon. They've got a minute to go down and try to make this a three touchdown game before halftime. Three touchdowns, hard to make up to. Certainly much more doable in the second half of the Tigers. They're trying to keep Mount Spokane out of the end zone for the next 60 seconds. They'll take it from the right hash mark at the 35 yard line.

Deontay, honestly, you can definitely see that the LC defense is not coming with the physicality it needs to. When Tyler Ohm caught that pass, he stood up the defender and literally ran him for extra yards in order to make that play.

Only reason why he didn't go any further is because another defender came to help. And so if you really want to shift this deep, shift the momentum of this game, the defense has to step it up and be way more physical than what they're being. You cannot get stood up by a wide receiver that's way smaller than you. No, but when you and I are looking at that. The Lewis and Clark huddle on the far side of the field there in their orange pants, white jerseys and black helmets, they look pretty small compared to Mount Spokane just physically right.

They look pretty small and they look pretty tired. You see a few guys with their hands on their hips. If you look over at the Mount Spokane huddle there, they look ready to go. Those guys look amped and ready to punch one more touchdown and is what they look like. Yeah, they're running back out there before the defense even gets out.

All right, so here comes Mount Spokane, a 13 nothing lead and trying to make it more here with 29. 9 seconds to go until the end of the second quarter. Here comes Flanagan under center now he moves back into the shotgun. Two receivers split to the left, one to the right. Here comes a good slow snap.

Linebacker blitz is coming. He throws down over the middle on the coverage. Oh, it's tipped away. It was in the hands of Aiden Prado. That was a good pass.

Punched out at the last minute as he came down in the end zone. Good pass. Even better defensive coverage there. You have to give it up to the db. Play through the hands there.

No catch. Nice. If the DB wasn't there, that's a touchdown for Prado. Easy touchdown. Don't see a lot of punch outs in high school, huh?

You don't, but that, that's, that shows talent. He's been watching some film because that's good. That's. That's a very high IQ play right there. You don't really start seeing mid play punch outs until you get to college, right?

Definitely collegiates. We work on that as when we were in college. Worked on every single day. Did you? Mm.

All right, third down and 10 here for Mount Spokane for the Lewis and Clark 22 yard line there on the right hash mark. The Lewis and Clark coaches on the far side of the field are going Crazy for some reason. Here's the snap. Flanagan throws deep into coverage on the left side of the field. He was going for Prado again.

The secondary was there. Incomplete pass. Fourth down and 10 coming up. And they'll go for three on the field goal. Yeah, there were a little bit of miscommunication there between the wide receiver and quarterback on that play for sure.

Also, we got to make sure he stays a little bit more confident in the pocket there. He was leaning back, going off his back foot. That's a tough throw to make. So out comes Ethan Mczielski. They've got the ball 22.

That makes this a 38 yard field goal. He tried one from about 60 last week against Central Valley, so this should be pretty easy work. But it's blocked by Lewis and Clark and it's a live ball at the 40 yard line. And it's recovered by Lewis and Clark. Wow.

One last second chance for them. Very nice. That ball is recovered by Peter Vermeer and all of a sudden they've got a chance for a couple points and they want it. They've got the ball at the 50 with 14 1/2 seconds to go. Two back to back blocks by the LC special teams here.

That's. They're showing. They're showing something. They're showing that they got some life to them. Now the question is, can they have some life to their offense here with 15 seconds to go until halftime.

It's rough, but we got to go deep with it. We cannot continue to keep on running them. Options. The options are starting to get shut down by the Mount Spokane defense. All right, the referees moved this ball back.

Lewis and Clark now on their own 45 yard line on the left side of the 50. They're going left to right across your radio dial. They send Northern back out there. Play action pass. He steps up in the pocket.

He's looking to throw downfield. And he's dropped for a gain at 2 yards. Couldn't even get to the 50. And it looks like Lewis and Clark will take one of their timeouts. That's their last remaining timeout and they're gonna take one more shot, I guess down the field here to Hunt.

Yeah, I wish he would have actually thrown the ball up at least to get his arm a little bit warm there. He's still not going for too many passes. Definitely a run first type of guy here. But when you need the points that you need with this, when you're this far away from the end zone, you got to throw it up. Give your wide receiver a chance to go up and make a play.

It is so difficult. It is one of the catch 22 things about option football is when you're playing from behind, it's almost impossible to come back from the option. It's really tough. Yeah, it looks. It really is tough and I totally understand what they're going through down there because they don't know whether they to run it because they had a few good plays and they're trying to pass it.

But this defense is just getting into the back foot way too fast. He's having a scramble with that ball. All right. This will in all likelihood be the final play of the first half. Mount Spokane leading Lewis and Clark 13 nothing.

Tigers have the ball on their own 48 yard line here and I guess we'll see Charles Northern and all likelihood take a pretty big shot downfield and see if they can get a touchdown. As time expires, they send it back out there. The big six foot running back Matt Hare standing behind him. Two receivers split out to the left and two to the right. Mount Spokane puts four safeties back there and defense.

Northern takes a snap, rolls right, steps up, throws out of bounds. And that was before that pass gets down at the end of the quarter mark as we take a look at the clock, waiting to see if that's the actual end of the second quarter. If they have one more play. Referees can't seem to decide. They will confer and they will say that is the end of the second quarter.

Greg Talbot and former Eastern star to Hante Hayes along for the ride tonight. All right, deontay. So two touchdowns for Mount Spokane, one from their quarterback Kellen Flanagan and one for their star. Kind of do it all. Running back and wide receiver Tyler Alm, who's your first half mvp?

I'd say my first half MP is definitely Kellen Flanagan. He definitely controlled the game, made great passes. Even though there was a few drops there. It wasn't really because of the ball placement, it was more on the wide receivers there. He controlled the game the best he possibly could, did everything for his offense and made them go down and feel real confident when they were entering that end zone.

They've been on the field for so much longer than Lewis and Clark on offense tonight that I'm hesitant to ask us to pick an MVP for the Tigers. Their defense has not been bad. But I'll tell you, I like the quarterback, Charles Northern. I think they just need to open up the playbook for him. I'd have to agree with you there.

Charles Northern hasn't shown anything that I can disagree with. He is very physical, very strong. He carries the ball, runs over defenders and wants to make plays on every play. That's probably why he's keeping it. And I feel like the only thing we need to see from him a little bit more is maybe his arm strength and see if he can get the ball downfield a little bit further.

All right. So as we get ready to kick off the second half, I cannot help but think, think that the most important thing we're going to see is the first defensive series from Lewis and Clark. If they can make a stop and get the ball back, they're right back in this. But if Mt. Spokane goes up three touchdowns and Lewis and Clark runs the option offense, I have a hard time seeing how they get back in it.

That's all we need from LC is for them to really get a stop. They've already made Mouse Spokane put their foot on the ball one time or a couple times already this game. But we really need for them to step it up on defense, play a little more physical and let Mouseball can know that they're the most more physical team going into this second half. All right, we are going to take one more commercial break here. Fans are starting to get back in the stands after they were down getting their concessions.

Here come the Wildcats back on from their huddle in their gray uniforms tonight with white pants and navy helmets on the far side of the field.

Lewis and Clark in their traditional black, white and orange colors. I'll tell you what though, to Hante, as we talked about in the pregame show, this is the first year where the Wildcat rather while the Tigers have chosen to move to the option offense, I've still been pretty impressed with how put together it looks. Usually a new option team looks pretty disturbing jointed. Yeah, you got to give coach the coaches credit there. It's definitely something to implement out of nowhere onto your team and expect them to do good with it.

And as you can see, they look very comfortable doing it. They're not getting the most yards out of it based off of the physicality that Mt. Spokane is playing with. But you can definitely see that they are very sound and they know what they're doing when they are playing it. Well, the good news for the Tigers, they get the ball back to start the second half down two touchdowns.

That's huge. It's going to be a huge drive for them. Everything from the start of the kickoff all the way until when they touch that ball on offense, that's going to be huge. First things first, they need to get a good return here. That last, the last last couple quarters when they were on, on special teams, they were looking really good.

They continue to do that, get a good return here and trickle that over onto offense. We can see his transition in the game. In case you're just joining us here on this game, Mt. Spokane does lead 13 nothing. But they've got a small roster tonight because of injury, injuries and COVID protocols and stuff.

When we were talking to their new athletic director before the game, Bobby Lee, he said what to haunt it? Like 25 guys on the roster tonight? Yeah, around 25, 26 guys. But honestly from looking at them from up here, it is not like they have that many players at all. They are playing so sound and so Chris, they do not look like they're tired at all.

No, that's the amazing thing. Most of them are playing two ways and they look completely fresh. They lead 13 nothing and this is a big, big drive coming up for Lewis and Clark after the Papa Murphy's kickoff here to start the second half. Papa Murphy's change the way you pizza. Lewis and Clark needs to change the way they offense here because they need a touchdown to Hante.

Yes they do. They need a touchdown really bad in order to make sure that they are still in this game. Because if Mouse Spokane comes down and puts some more points on the board, this can get ugly really fast. All right, here we go. Ready to start the second half. This ball's down to the 40 yard line for Mt. Spokane Gins Hilburn standing back at the Lewis and Clark five yard line on the left side of the 50 to return it. High end over end kick.

He makes the catch at the two. It's off his hands. He dropped it. He picks it up with a five. He cuts through a couple of defenders.

He makes it all the way back to the 20 yard line. I did not see that coming. That's how you make plays when you need to make plays. He did. He muffed the.

He muffed the kick but he caught it and made a couple guys miss before getting down to 20. Even though the Lewis and Clark offense has not been that great, Gent Hilburn has been very good. He's really dynamic. Oh yeah, I can definitely see that. He looks very good with the, with the ball in his hands and he right there.

That's what they need. They're at the 20. They could have been even further back. All right, so out comes Charles Northern. He was pretty effective as a quarterback in the first half.

He would have been even more effective if he had not fumbled that 6050 yard run inside the 5 yard line. Then again, that is why they're down 13 0. Could have been 13 to 7, but c' est la vie. They start from the 20 yard line. He takes a direct snap, runs to the left side off tackle.

He's past the 25 yard line, up to the 26, 4 gain of 6. He starts this quarter off the same exact way he ended it last. He's running hard and he's trying to make plays. I love it. He's listed on the roster, is 6ft tall and 185 pounds.

I think he plays bigger. Oh yeah. And he's also listed as quarterback, but I think he's listed as a running back. He should be because he is running that ball. He is running that ball for sure.

Yeah, he's certainly run it more than tonight than he. I think he's only through what, twice in the first half? Just two times. Something like that. All right, second down and three coming up.

Only one safety back for me to on defense. Here's the snap to Northern. He turns and hands it off to Kilburn. He tries to get to the right side. He can't get the corner.

A flag comes in. He got about three yards. But that's going to be a play flag on the offense. Yes, it is. It's going to be a holding here.

Holding on the offense. Back it goes. That's so rough because he. Northern's working so hard to try and make them make plays. But then when they get a few yards down the field, they end up getting a penalty.

That's taking them right back in the wrong direction. It happened what, two or three times just at the end of the second quarter. Yes, it did. And there was a few missed calls there too. And there's the Holden call.

So they start the half of the great seven yard run and now they're going to push him back. It's just brutal. I must say. That was a very tough call there. There was a.

It was a little bit. It wasn't necessarily a hold. You kind of grabbed him by the towel a little bit there. So it's kind of nitpicky there. But I must say they, they're.

They're struggling to keep the flag off the ground now. We were saying that, you know, they've been pretty clean for a team that's newly running the option. The offensive linemen have had trouble jumping and holding. Yes, they're having a hard time jumping, holding, and giving the ball to the quarterback in spots he needs. The center is definitely struggling.

All right, man. After the 10 yard penalty, second down and 16 to go here for Lewis and Clark. All of a sudden, now they're back on their own 12 yard line on the left side of the 50. Here it comes. Northern takes a snap, hands off to Matt Hair.

Only his third carry of the night is able to get six yards out of it, which is good because you'd have been talking to Hunter. We like Matt Hair. They just haven't used him enough. Yeah, I do like him. He's a big body.

Looks like he could be a physical guy with the ball in his hands. It's very, very rough that Matt Harris hasn't been able to show what he can do. Being that big frame at 6 foot, 220 pounds, that is a big guy. That's big for a South Hill running back is what that is. So big.

But the thing about is this mountain defense is swarming to the ball. They sure are. All right, after the gain. Third down in 11. Call it a gain of 5.

One reception receiver split to each side here for Northern. He's probably gonna have to uncork one here. It takes a good slow snap. No, he's got here as a lead blocker. He can't even get back to the line of scrimmage.

Fourth down, taken for a loss. What a great tackle in the backfield by Bryson Stanger. And that's a brutal way to start the second half for Lewis and Clark. Definitely not the start they want if they want to try and take control of this game. But what I do like to see is that this defense is definitely, definitely swarming to the ball.

After every single tackle, there's at least nine to 10 guys, and that's very rare. We even pride ourselves on that when I was playing over there at Eastern. All right, so this next drive for Mount Spokane when they get the punt back, could potentially start to put this thing in the coffin, but we will see. All right, here comes the punt unit out on the field for Lewis and Clark. It's a bad snap recovered end over end of the 50 yard line.

And here comes Aidan Prado. Catches it on one hop spin taken down by the ankles. Flag comes in from the near side. He got to the Lewis and Clark 43. And we'll see what the flag comes in for.

Blocking the back block in the back. Okay, so you and I were saying at the end of the first half there to hunt a the two most important things to start as we come out in the second half. Lewis and Clark's first luck on offense, Lewis and Clark's first look on defense. If they can make a stop here, this is fine. If not, this might be the beginning of the end.

Yes. I'm sorry to say it, and I hate to say it, because I had high hopes for LC coming into this game, but I definitely need for them to pick it up on offense and on defense. Their offense came out not the way I was expecting them to. I wanted to come out with a lot more. A lot more urgency to make plays and make things happen utilizing the big players that they have on their off.

I believe Mt. Spokane only ran three actual drives in the entire first half, and yet two of those went for touchdowns. And they stayed on the field so long, I think they only had three drives. That's all they needed. They made a statement within those three drives to show what type of team they are.

All right, so out comes Mount Spokane for their fourth drive of the night. This one for their first or the second half, taking it from their own 42. Oh, yeah. And he doesn't even look like he's even tired yet. And it doesn't. He's not even that big like he's listed at 511, 185. I think he might actually be smaller than that.

That could be what it is. He's just walking right underneath these defenses. Sanders legs and going straight to where he needs to go. All right, he got up to the six yard line. So Mount Spokane on the Lewis and Clark six on the left side of the field here at Union Stadium.

Can see him start to slow down. He's kind of walking a little bit. We should definitely get. He got up a little gingerly there. He got up a little bit slower than he has the whole time and that's something we got to watch out for considering this game is still a little bit further away from being over and we need him.

It is not done yet. 5, 26 to go here in the third quarter. So like, you know, 15, actually 17 and a half minutes of football time left to go here. So this thing is not done yet. They gotta give Alma break.

The Hunte, right. I say this is a good play. This is a good idea. They have nothing to lose here. They're using the game.

They're on their own 40. They got to get up to the Mount Spokane 43. Here comes Northern under center. Two guys in the backfield, one receiver split out each way. They go up the middle.

It's Hilburn. He goes shoulder first. I think he was stopped short by about a yard. He was stopped short. But they're giving them a positive gain, it looks like here.

I don't know if I agree with this one, but. And the Wildcats make The stop on defense. That is a turnover. No Damon Orthodontics first down. Well, we'll see it.

Based off of what I just saw, Based off of what you just said, too, that it was about a yard short. That's exactly what I seen. But the spotting reference ref ended up running right next to the sticks on that. The referees, though, Dehante tonight have had a couple of instances where they've given what we thought are kind of weird spots. So maybe this ends up working out for the Tigers.

Lewis and Clark on offense on their own 43 yard line. They gotta find a way to get some points. No deep safeties back for Mount Spokane. Maybe time to take a shot. Here comes the snap.

Up the middle they go. No, it's a fake handoff. They pitch it outside the hair. He gets man, back to the line of scrimmage, nothing more. That was a well run fake.

And then pitch. Now Spokane's defense just ready. So that's a really good play concept there. He definitely had what he wanted to get out of that. But you really need that wide receiver on the outside to steal off that corner.

Because the corners, the one that came up on the outside of him and was able to make that play for the tfl, we really have to be, in order to make those type of plays, everyone has to be cued in on that loss of 1/2 down and 11. Really taking their time getting this playoff. I'm not sure they're gonna do it. Seven seconds on the play clock. I think Lewis and Clark is gonna have to come out really quickly.

We're just gonna have to go down to the nitty gritty on this one and pinpoint every single thing in order to find out who is deserving of that. But I'll tell you what I love. If you look over on the far side of the field you see a whole bunch of Lewis and Clark students in the student section in a bunch of different neon colors. Neon orange, neon green, neon pink. They're still jumping up and down, they're still enjoying themselves.

I love that they have not gotten down. That's the best type of crowd to have too. Not the ones that want to leave. When you're, when you're losing the people that stand by you the entire game, that's what every fan base dreams of having. Here comes the kick right to left across your radio dial.

It's a high snap here to Northern. He goes off tackle between the guard. Actually he gets a gain of 3 or 4 yards on the play. Actually that was Hilbert. My mistake.

And the ball is on the ground. And Mount Spokane recovered it. Oh, you're kidding me. It looked like he had both hands on the ball. I guess he was carrying it with just his right hand that it got punched.

Yeah, he was running before he even got the ball and never got a good security of the ball and ended up giving it up when the defense got there. Second, big turnover of the game for Lewis and Clark. Northern gave one up and now Hilburn does the same. This is definitely a swimming events that we were not expecting going into this game. And I must say Mount Spokane is doing everything that we were not expecting.

So now, four seconds to go until the end of the quarter. This will be the last play of the third quarter. 27 nothing. Mount Spokane on top of Lewis and Clark. And out comes Flanagan.

Two receivers split to each side. He's got ALM with him in the backfield. This will be the final play of the third quarter. Low snap to his knees. Flanagan throws deep over the middle into coverage.

It is intercepted down at the 15 yard line. Running it back is Tommy Mickelson. He nearly had a pick earlier in this game and now he gets redemption. He does make an interception. And Lewis and Clark will have the ball back to start the fourth quarter.

I really like how Hilburn is attacking the ball even though he just fumbled. He's running it very, very hard. He's probably one of the hardest runners right now with the ball. Northern comes out under center. They go back to Hilbert.

Stiff arm there. Used to probably got us about double his size. Right to the face, right him right on the ground. And what a play. If there was a little bit more yards there, he would have definitely got more.

More. Just ran out of bounds, ran out of space. And you can hear the Mount Spokane student section down to our left in their pink breast cancer awareness garb tonight, chanting for the defense being pretty loud. It was a gain of three on the play. Second down and seven coming up.

Hilburn split to the far side and Tyler Jones to the near side. They have not thrown very much tonight. Here comes Hilburn into the Wildcat. After motion, he takes the snap, runs down to the 10 yard line. He's going to be a little bit, bit short.

Third down and one. Coburn is doing what he needs to do right now. He's exactly the guy that I was saying needs to have the ball in his hands. I would definitely like to see Hare have the ball a little bit more with his big frame, but it's something that's just not going to be able to. Being 6 foot 200, 220 pounds, you have to be able to go in and make plays and do big things, carry the whole team.

They've really been using it more as a lead blocker. Exactly. Which is, which is beneficial because it's allowing Hilburn to be able to make plays. All right. Hilburn is the quarterback Wildcat here with one guy flanked to each side on third down and one, he takes it.

He runs all the way to the outside. Can he turn the corner? He got to the 10. I'm not sure he got the first down. Mt.

Spokane's defense in their gray jerseys saying he came up short. He did come up short. Fourth down in inches. And the Tigers just got to go for it. At this point for the LC offense, they have to be able to get this first down.

It's. It's very detrimental to the entire rest of the game with eight minutes left, even if you can't when you want this emotional win. Yeah, you definitely just need this. Fourth down and inches for lc. Mount Spokane stacks the box.

I know he can smell. He probably can taste it right now. He's ready to go inside the end zone. He deserves this touchdown. He definitely does.

He. He single handedly has. Has drawn this team all the way down this field basically by himself. Basically in the offensive lineman. Exactly how it comes.

He got down to the three yard line. So second and goal from the three. Matt Hare in, out the right side. Northern, the quarterback, he turns and hands off a pitch here to Brett Hendrickson. His first touch of the night.

They ran the option. They swept him around the back. He got a gain of maybe a yard. Third down and goal from the. Between the two and the three.

They got creative. They don't need to. They don't need to get creative here. They could just stick to what they were just doing. It was working.

They were getting yards off of it and it's very rough for them to try and do that when they don't have that much field over there. You're running a toss and he's running out of space and there's a bunch of. There's three or four guys standing there waiting for him. That's. That's rough.

I'm not a fan of that play. Call. All right. Third down and goal from the three. I think I know where they're going here.

Charles Northern back in at quarterback, Hilburn at halfback. Turning hand to Hilburn. He stopped at the 3. The defense was looking for him and they got him. No gain.

Fourth down coming up. Go for it. Why not? You might as well just go for it. Or, or if you just want to put some points on the board, you can kick it.

But I see, I think you should definitely go for it. Here, run a play for Hilburn. See if you can do it. Yeah, I think that they were doing good in the Wildcat. Hilburn was picking up plenty of plays and when they, when it came down to fourth down, he was able to go down and pick up four to five yards on that.

The clock is running. Five minutes and 30 seconds left to go in this game. 27 nothing. Mount Spokane on top of Lewis and Clark. But LC is down on the three yard line and they're going for it.

Fourth and goal from the three, Northern and a quarterback Hilburn behind him is the halfback. Man in motion. And Hilbrun's gonna throw it off to the side. Oh man. He overthrew Bennett Hendrickson at the two.

Turnover on fourth down. That. That's a very, very tough play there by Northern. You feel that one in your soul. Definitely.

When the light shines too broad on you sometimes, you know, you just fumble that play. But that was definitely something that he should have been able to complete. Yeah, that. There was nobody there even pressuring him to be able to overthrow that. The guy was maybe three, four yards away from.

From him too. So that's very, very tough. I'm not sure he would have gotten to the end zone, but he would have gotten to the one. Not even that. Just that incomplete pass, just.

It can just kill a team. Look at the offense walking over to the sideline right now. They are destroyed now. Yeah, that's a good point. The LC offense on the far side of the field walking back to the silver bleacher.

They got their kind of shoulders tipped over. Yeah, they're. They're destroyed. They're not looking happy. Okay, here comes Mount Spokane from their own three yard line.

They're going to draw run playoff to the left side. It's a draw. Flanagan kept it gain a seven, five minutes to go. And Mouse Spokane is out here looking like they are ready to put their their twos in. Yeah, you bet.

He was literally just jogging and just ran out of bounds. I don't know, I mean I was not expecting it to be the LC team with the bigger roster that was gassed tonight, but here we are. Oh yeah, def. I was not expecting that either. As we talked about earlier, I was saying that I was expecting him to come out here a lot more firing with all those extra players on the sideline.

I don't know if there's scouts in the, in the stands or what, but he is putting on a show for the fans. Yeah, I would be psyched if I were here to watch the game and I saw what Tyler oh did tonight. Yeah, definitely.

He hasn't. He has put on one of the best performances I've seen from a high school player in a while. It's, it's, it's really good. As a former Eastern Washington football star to hanse, I want to ask you which guys that you've seen tonight could be college players. They're honestly the three key players here today is definitely going to have to be Jordan Sands, Aiden Prado, Flanagan of course and Tyler Alm.

All four of those guys have definitely put on a show. They're showing that they can play at another level. And I have nothing bad to say about these guys. They play hard and that's all college teams need. They need a hard working player who's willing to get better every single play and that's what they're doing.

3 FM Greg Talbot Informer Eagles star to Hante Hayes to wrap this one up. Mount Spokane 27 Lewis and Clark Nothing the Hante coming into this game we thought it would go pretty fast. It did go pretty fast. We got this game in in just under two hours. That said, Lewis and Clark's offense just couldn't get anything going.

Yeah, it was a struggle day for Lewis and Clark and Mount Spokane definitely put the heat on them the entire game. Put the put their foot on the gas pedal and just did not let up the entire game and that's what Mount Spokane needed to do. They had a few things, a few adversity things that they were coming in struggling with, for instance, not having enough players. But they did not let that affect them at all and they did a great job. Next week on our RV's GSL game of the week we are going to be there for what is going to be one of the best games of the year.

Not only in Spokane, in all of the eastern side of the state. Gonzaga Prep, Central Valley, two of the top tier teams I believe CV coming into this game, game three and one Mount spoke Gonzaga Prep going into their game tonight four zero. So a combined seven and one two of the very best around. That game is going to be nuts. Oh yeah.

I'm hoping that we have a swing out all the way to the end of the game and that it's something that I'm going to sit here and be like, oh my goodness, I don't know who I'm going to choose for this game.
