It's the Mount Spokane Wildcats with a mark of 22 and 5 on the season, taking on the Rainier Beach Vikings with a record of 20 and 4 so far on the season. Yesterday in the quarterfinals it was Mount Spokane winning their first game in this tournament as they defeated Mount Lake Terrace by the score of 70 to 45. Pretty easy win for Mount Spokane in that ballgame. They shot better than 56% from the field in the game and rolled to the easy victory for Rainier Beach. They had to play their way in on Wednesday and a loser out game. They defeated Ferris 5845 and then last night they knocked off Gig Harbor 65 to 60, outscoring Gig Harbor 18 to 11 in the fourth period of play to rally for the victory in this tournament.

So far Rainier beach shooting better than 52% from the field and so they have been executing their offense at a high pace. They are scoring better than 60 points a game in this tournament and this is a team that will get into you. They want to play at a faster pace and they had some injury problems in the midpoint of the season but they are back and healthy here in this tournament. And so Rainier beach takes on Mount Spokane here at the Tacoma Dome. The winner of this game will play the Auburn Trojans for the state 3A championships.

As just a moment or two ago here at the Tacoma Dome, Auburn defeated Seattle Prep by the score of 45 to 34 in a very taut, intense defensive type of game. Malik Arrington had 12 points to lead Auburn there. And of course, that is notable to Mt. Spokane fans because last week in the regionals, Mt. Spokane defeated Auburn to end up getting a buy on Wednesday and into the quarterfinals on Thursday.

On the scoreboard today Gonzaga Prep lost to Kamiakin by the score of 63 40. So they are eliminated from this tournament. Our scoreboard presented by the Divine Corporation. So Kamiakin moves on. They will play Tahoma tomorrow in the fourth and sixth place game.

Jaden Stevens had 20 points to lead Gonzaga Prepp. He scored half their points in this ball game. But Gonzaga Prep was just two out of 20 from the three point line in the game. And I don't know that they led at all during that ballgame earlier this afternoon. So that's a look at the scoreboard we mentioned earlier that Auburn takes on the winner of this game tomorrow for the state 3, 8 champion championship.

The loser will play Seattle Prep for third and fifth place. The Mead girls will play at 7:15. We'll have that game for you right here as they'll be in action against Lake Washington looking to get into the state 3A girls championship game. Rainier beach is going to pressure you. They're going to get in passing lanes. They're very athletic, they love to play quickly. And if you're Mount Spokane, you've got to be secure with the ball, make good decisions. You can get shots against this team but you've got to be able to withstand the pressure in order to get those shots.

Mount Spokane did not take a lot of three point shots last game. We'll see what they do with that. You've got to be able to control the big man for Rainier Beach, Josh Connerly. He is 6ft 6, 285lbs and he is a fantastic football player who was an energizer for this Rainier beach team against Ferris on Wednesday because he got rolling defensively, gotten some passing lanes that sparked the rest of their team.

First off for Rainier beach, coached by Mike Matthay, they'll have Ziggy Holmes a 64 senior, Jalen Green a 66 senior, Josh Connolly a 66 senior, Namir Robinson a 59 junior and who did I miss? Demar Johnson going in their starting lineup.

And for Mount Spokane, coached by David Wagonblast, I'll have Ryan Lafferty a 6 4, sophomore Maverick Sanders a 65 junior Andrew Raymond a 64 sophomore, Chapel Smith a 66 junior, and Xavier Kamalu Vargas a 63 senior, in the lineup. Mount Spokane in their home white. Mount Spokane in print in blue, trimmed in red. Rainier beach in road black, with beach in print in orange. Blue numbers trimmed in orange and bad center jump.

So they'll try again. And Connerly gets it for Rainier Beach. They've got the ball to start the game. It's Johnson dribbling up top. Wants to hand it off to Namir Robinson.

Can't do it as good defense there by Kamalu. Vargas denied that. So now they'll feed into the high post. Left of the key. Is Jalen Green up top.

Johnson dribbles to the right side, takes it down to the baseline. Dumps it inside Connerly for a layup. That's good. They just don't have anybody with his size. Inside Connerly the basket.

It's two. Nothing in favor of Rainier Beach. Here's full court pressure put on. Mount Spokane beats it. Chapel Smith gets it ahead to Raymond.

He'll drive in on the left side. Pass out, comes to Smith. Has the ball poked away. Gets it back. He's beyond the top of the key.

Puts the ball on the floor. Underhands it back. Now to Lafferty. Top of the key. He'll pitch it out.

Kamalu Vargas way out on the right side. Seven to shoot off a screen. Kamalu Vargas pulls up top of the key, Dumps it inside. Losing the ball. And it's picked up by Mount Spa.

By Rainier beach. Into the four court. Holmes with it to Connerly. And now to Johnson, who will set the offense. No, that's Robinson.

And Robinson is fouled on his drive to the right, I think by Kamalu Vargas. Nope. It is on Maverick Sanders. Sanders first. First team foul on Mount Spokane to nothing.

Is the score in favor of Rainier Beach? They'll bring it in. We played just over a minute. Johnson gets it into Robinson. Not built like his dad.

He's skinny. Now to Johnson. Top of the key to the big man. Connerly way out there. Now to Robinson, guarded by Kamalu vargas.

Robinson retreats, 16 to shoot. Standing in the center circle. Lobs it over on the right. Now to Green. Green, the six six wing.

Pitches it up top, down to Holmes. Holmes with the basketball. Ziggy Holmes, little crossover, drives to the foul line. Puts up a 15 footer and it's good. Ziggy Holmes, the basket.

Four nothing in favor of Rainier Beach. Full court pressure. Mount Spokane beats it. Lafferty down the right side into the corner. It goes to Sanders.

Back out to Kamalu. Vargas now up top to Smith. Smith will drive. Pitch it out now onto the wing to Raymond. Raymond inside.

Sanders. His shot no good. Too hard. Off the backboard only. And the rebound taken out by Rainier Beach.

Here comes to Mar Johnson. Up into the fourth court. Johnson will set the offense for nothing early on Rainier Beach. We played just over two minutes. They'll snap a pass on the left to Robinson.

Now onto the wing to Green. Out it comes to Holmes. Way out there. Gets a high screen. Can't get anywhere now.

Tries again. Lost the ball. Gets it back in the corner. Pitch out now to Johnson. Five seconds to shoot.

Johnson starts to drive into the lane. Shovels a pass to Connerly. His shot is blocked, but a foul is called. And Josh Connerly Jr. Will go to the line.

Or is that Green? It may have been. I got screened out. It's going to be Jalen Green. And so the line goes.

Jalen Green here to shoot two shots for Rainier Beach. Very good football player. Will be a wide receiver at Eastern Washington University next fall. Green's free throw is no good. Rainier beach is not a good free throw shooting team.

The pressure bothering Mount Spokane. And it is constant pressure put on by Rainier Beach. And Johnson will bring it up into the fourth court wearing a black sleeve from his wrist to mid bicep. Now to Connerly, the big man, right of the free throw circle. Holds the ball, guarded by Maverick Sanders.

Now to Robinson. He'll dribble off to the right side. Gets a screen. Comes back to the left. And as the ball poked away from him by Lafferty 3 on 1.

Lafferty lobs it ahead for a shot that is up and in good by Maverick Sanders. First basket for Mount Spokane of this ballgame comes from Maverick Sanders and it's five two now in favor of Rainier Beach. 443 remaining to play here first quarter. Johnson Way out there with it on the left side trying to direct traffic here. Dribbles across the top to the right side.

Underhands it now and a timeout is taken by Mike Bethea and we'll take a timeout. 431 remaining first quarter, 5 2. They've got some guys that can climb the ladder here, but Mount Spokane has good height, good length. Johnson to inbound right baseline. Looking to get it inside. Lobs it now for a green. He tips it to himself, will shoot.

It's an air ball and that will be a shot clock violation. Mount Spokane came up with a basketball, but they came up with it after the shot clock had expired. So the ball is dead and the Wildcats will have it in the back court. Not a lot of pressure this time around. Kamali Vargas beats his man right to the rim for a layup.

That's good he got around. Johnson and Xavier Kamalu Vargas goes right to the rim. And it's 54 now in favor of Rainier beach as Kamalu Vargas gets his first basket. Here's a drive. Robinson, he'll take it to the hole.

Tried to pass it inside and it's knocked away and stolen. Kamalu Vargas comes out of the back court with it. He is going to be having the ball poked away by Robinson. But Robinson is going to get another foul. That's the second on Robinson.

Two team fouls on Rainier Beach. In for Mount Spokane, the six eight forward David Rowe and the 510 yard Aiden Prado. And in for Rainier beach is Miles Damon to replace Robinson. Inbounds comes to Kamalu Vargas. 350 remaining to play here in the first half.

Mount Spokane trailing by a point. Kamalu Vargas to Lafferty. He'll dribble to the top of the key, pivot around. Give it now to Kamalu Vargas. He'll drive down to the baseline.

Double team tries to wrap around. A pass to Sanders. And it's stolen away. Taken out of there by Rainier Beach. Here's a lob ahead.

Heyman, he'll work his way along the baseline and beat it out. Now onto the wing to Johnson. Johnson will take the dribble out between the wings or to between the circles. Now pitch it back over to Damon. Damon with it way out there on the left side.

10 to shoot now to Jalen Green on the wing. Green kicks it out to Holmes. He'll drive homes into the lane. Rolls over a defender and has called for an offensive foul. Kamalu Vargas drew the character foul on Ziggy Holmes.

That's his first and the third team foul now on Rainier Beach. Now it's Spokane William down in the backcourt. They've got Prado out there with Rowe, Sanders, Kamalu Vargas and Lafferty. And walking the ball up into the forecourt. Here is Xavier.

Kamalu Vargas run that in a double team and the pass is deflected. Out of bounds trying to get it to Prado on the right wing. Beach was just waiting for Mount Spokane to cross the timeline. And as soon as they did, they ran at the ball handler with two players. Mount now a zone defense from Rainier Beach.

A 2, 3. Prado with it out to Kamalu Vargas way out there on the right side. Nine to shoot. Kamalu Vargas probes in, finds Sanders top of the key. Three on the way is good a Damon orthodontics three pointer from Maverick Sanders.

He has five early points and the first lead. Of the game now for Mount Spokane at seven to five. Here's a drive, left baseline. Johnson. Wraparound pass to the right baseline.

Three pointer off the front rim. No good, that. One shot by Damon. And here comes Mount Spokane. And the ball poked away.

Damon with a steal. Here he comes into the front court. And a charging foul is called as Kamalu Vargas again draws the charge. And so the fourth foul on beach as that is the first foul on Miles Damon. And into the game now for Mount Spokane is Sam Davidson.

Davidson, the sophomore guard at 5:10. And here comes Lafferty, also a sophomore, into the four court at 6:4. Lafferty gets a high screen from Prado. Bounce pass. Davidson on the right wing.

Davidson dribbles once, has to feed it out near the timeline to Lafferty. Lafferty probes on the right side now. Bounce pass over to Prado on the left high post to Sanders. Double teamed. Has the ball slapped away.

And it's stolen. Johnson coming down to knock that one away. Leads it ahead down the right side. Off the hands of Damon. Out of bounds.

Andrew Raymond, Chapel Smith will re enter. And Prado will check out as will Maverick Sanders. And here comes Demar Johnson walking the ball back into the forecourt. Johnson snaps a pass to Damon, right wing, dumps it inside. Connolly turns, shoots and scores.

He just took David Rowe, who's probably 100 pounds lighter and just shoved him right underneath the basket. Connerly the hoop. 7 7. We are tied with the ball in the high post. Driving now and scoring.

But a foul is called. Andrew Raymond with the drive and he was fouled. And this is on Josh Connerly Jr. His first and the third. The fifth team foul on Rainier Beach.

Out of bounds. Davidson will inbound. Rainier beach in the zone. Defensively. Inbounds pass stolen away.

Jalen Green knocked it out of there. Here's Damon on a drive. A double Pump layup that won't rebound taken by Green. Has it slapped away. Ball loose, picked up by Davidson for Mount Spokane.

Davidson gets it ahead now into the four court. Here they come. Raymond will pull up and hand it off now to to Lafferty, to Davison, back to Lafferty, around to Smith. Open 3 no good off the back rim from the left wing. And the rebound taken by Jalen Green for Rainier Beach.

Outlet to Damon. Bounce pass across and he led Johnson too far and threw it into the Mt. Spokane bench. Subs coming in for both teams. Jerry Petty Jr.

Is in to replace Damon for Mount. For Rainier beach and for Mount Spokane. A couple of subs in. Trey Williams is in and Kamalu Vargas is back in. And Kamalu Vargas will now play the point here.

Kamalu Vargas gets run out by two players. Picks up his dribble, pivots around. Bounce pass over to Williams, back out now to Kamalu Vargas. He'll step into the top of the key. Alley ooplav underneath Rowe.

Little five footer, no good. Tipped up and in good athletic play there by Andrew Raymond. A little jump up and a two handed tip and it's nine seven now in favor of Mount Spokane. Top of the key. Dribbling the ball is Petty.

Gets it away to Green on the left. Out on top to Connerly. Connerly holds the ball. Dribbling now against Rowe. Feeds it away to Petty.

So Connerly will shoot two. Let's go ahead, we'll tell you. Let's see whether they're going to put any time on the clock here before we take a break. Rainier beach came back, cut it to 1 at 19, 18. It was a three point game. 25:22. Mt. Spokane at the intermission.

Mt. Spokane up their lead to 7 early second half 29, 22, still led by 5 at 31, 26 and then a great run by Rainier Beach. They went on a 17 to two run to go from five down to eight ahead at 4135 on a basket by Miles Damon and that was a big eight point run there. And they had a three point play from Jalen Green off a steal that made it 37 to 33 and that is going to be our play of the game presented by Wendell Motors. The lead grew to as many as 12 at 50 to 38 and then Mount Spokane with a furious rally at the end.

Alright, welcome back now and let's tell you a little pre game as we get ready for Lake Washington taking on Mead here in the battle between the number one seed Mead and the number four seed, the Lady Kangs or Kangaroos is what they are but they call themselves Kangs. The Lady Kangs of Lake Washington. All right, so Lake Washington they beat Hermison yesterday 73 to 40 in the quarterfinals. They led that game 25 to 7 after the first quarter and went on to the easy victory.

They shot 46% from the field. They made nine three pointers in the ball game and had a big edge in rebounding. About an 18 rebound edge in that ball game against Hermiston yesterday and they held Hermiston to 23% shooting from the field and just five made three pointers for Hermiston in the ball game for Mead they had another what looked like an easy win.

When you look at the scoreboard it was Mead 52, Stanwood 33. You'd think alright, that was a nice close to 20 point win. Well, in that ball game Stan would actually lead at the half and Mead led by only two points. Three points I believe. It was going into the fourth quarter of play.

But Meade outscored Stanwood 171 in the fourth quarter to go from 35, 32 up to actually Mead led by one at the intermission. I take that back. Mead rallied for the three point lead at the end of three quarters and then one by 19 by outscoring them by 16 points in the fourth quarter of play. So Meade stayed unbeaten. They're 24 0.

They have not yet won a game by less than 12 points. And so they are looking to see whether they are going to be tested here by this Lake Washington team here this evening. Lake Washington as we mentioned, beat Hermiston. They have four losses this season. They lost to Issaquah, they lost to Arlington, Tumwater and Lakeside of Seattle.

So it's the 240 Meade Panthers taking on the Lake Washington Lady Kangs or Kangaroos. And we'll be back. And we had to try to get everything squared away here. And I couldn't get across the floor to see who's who here. So here are the starting lineups. First off for the Kangaroos of Lake Washington. They will have Eva Usitano starting.

She'll dribble, pitch it out on top to Suggs, over to Braun. Left wing drives to the baseline. Two to shoot, one to shoot. And they do get it off. Gardner's three pointer off the heel of the iron.

And the rebound out to Usitalo. Here she comes in forecourt. Usitalo will accelerate down to the baseline, pitch it out to Butler Wu. She starts in, gets cut off and traveled. So traveling called.

And it'll be out of bounds for Meade. We have played a minute and 19 seconds. 2:1 in favor of the Panthers. Again the full court. 2, 2, 1.

She'll direct traffic, send it over to Suggs on the left, skips it across to Moore on the right. Moore probes to the foul line and she travels. So traveling called on Mead and it'll be Lady Kang basketball. Here comes Moore or Smith Rather, the point guard. She has the ball poked away by Gardner, but goes back to get it, Finds usitalo now into the post, the 6 4.

Hanney turns, shoots and scores. Elise Haney gets the basket. Her first hoop of the game at 6, 5. Here comes Mead. Gardner up into the forecourt to the top of the key.

Over to Moore on the left. She'll hook a pass out to Braun, sends it over to Suggs on the right, jumps it inside for Gardiner, who lost it, gets it back. And they're gonna call her for traveling. She wanted, I think, to alley oop that. And she kind of shot it when she caught it, but she was about 10ft from the hoop.

And here comes Lake Washington into the forecourt. Smith underhands it. Up top. Usitalo 16 footer outside the foul line is good. Eva Ucita Lo gets the basket and it's 76 now as first lead.

They led through the early part. They had a 65 lead or excuse me, they had a 6 to 3 lead after a Taran Gardner basket. Then four straight points by Blake Washington put them on top of for the first time at seven to six. We were tied at eight and then we went through the first quarter. A couple of baskets by the six foot four inch post.

Elise Haney for Lake Washington. Lake Washington at a 12:10 or 12:8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Taryn Gardner scored to start the second quarter for Mead would not score another field goal for roughly 11 minutes of playing time. And that allowed Lake Washington to take a huge lead in this game. They went from 1210 ahead to 18 to 10 ahead.

Then a free throw by Suggs made it 18 to 11 and then nine straight points for Lake Washington to end the first half. And the Kangaroos had a 27 to 11 lead after three quarters of play. They up that lead to 18 at 30 to 12 early in the third quarter of play. And finally Mead got a basket. His Haley Byrne scored that snapped that 10 to 11 minute scoreless stretch there.

Made it 30 to 14 and started a comeback by Mead. They scored six straight points. A Parker Brown basket cut it to 12 at 30 to 18. Lake Washington got the lead back to 15 at 33:18. But back came Mead.

They kept the lead to nine at 33. 24. The lead was taken back to 12 again at 39:27 on on a three point shot made by Rosa Smith. But then Mead made a big run. Taryn Gardner a three pointer.

She had a great fourth quarter for me after a free throw made it a 10 point game. A hoop by Alicia Suggs cut the lead to eight. Two free throws made it 42, 32 for Lake Washington. Gardner hits two free throws, cut it to eight. A basketball for Taryn Gardner on a steal, cut it to six.

Another Gardner basket cut it to four. Mead got a defensive stop late in the game, inside of 30 seconds. This basket put the Mead as it ended up down by just one. Suggs brings it down the left side, starts to back it in, finds Brown. She'll attack the rim.

Brown for a layup. Good and one and Parker Brown can make it a one point game with 17 1/2 seconds remaining to play here in the fourth quarter. And she did make it a one point game. She made there her free throw and Meade ended up getting the ball back. After a missed free throw.

They took a timeout. They had the ball with about 12 seconds remaining. They took their time. They got a good shot in the end. They started out on the right side, worked it around the left.

Taryn Gardner found an opening on the baseline. She cut to the rim, but the pass was just a split. Second too late and that put Gardner too far under the rim. She could not get her shot over the rim. She hit the underneath of the rim six inches a foot back.

She probably makes the layup to win the ballgame for the Meade Panthers, but they can't get the winning basket there. Meade another great fourth quarter. They outscored Lake Washington 176 and outscored them 30 to 15 in the second half, but they dug themselves too big of a hole, especially in the second quarter of play. They hit 11 of 26 for 42%. For the game they were 14 out of 48. That's 29%. Just one out of 13 from distance though and 12 of 15 from the foul line. In this ball game game for Lake Washington they were a very respectable 43 1/2 percent.

10 out of 23 in the first half, but just 4 of 19 in the second half. And for the game 33%. 14 out of 42. They had 2 out of 14 long distance shots and 12 out of 20 free throws. Rebounding 36 for Lake Washington to 29 for Mead.

Turnovers. Mead had 19, Lake Washington had 21. Individually, Taran Gardner a game high 24 points. 12 of Mead's 17 in the fourth quarter and 18 of Meade's 30 in the second half. The sophomore had a spectacular game.

8 of 17 from the field, 7 out of 8 from the foul line. And she made the only three point shot for Meade. In this game she was the only player in double figures. Haley Burns had six, Parker Brown scored five, Alicia Suggs had had four, Natalie Braun had two for Lake Washington. They were led by the six four post Elise Haney.

She had 19 points in the ball game. She was the only player in double figures for them. Eight for Rosa Smith, four each for Citron and Butler Wu, three for Usitalo and two apiece for Sim and Health. For Lake Washington's total of 42 rebounding for Meade, six for Alicia Suggs to lead them, nobody had more than one assist. Nobody had more than one block shot.

Terry Gardner had six steals for Meade for Lake Washington, eight rebounds for Haney, two assists for Citron. Haney had the only blocked shot. I thought she blocked more than one. She was credited with one. Couple of different players had two steals.

Our player of the game is presented by Elliott and she services and that player is Taryn Gardner for 24 points, four rebounds, six steal performance. Plus she had a blocked shot as well. Gonzaga Prep lost a loser out game earlier today to Kamiakin by the score of 63 to 40. They were two out of 20 from the three point line in the ballgame and Gonzaga Prep season ends and Kamiakin will go on to play Tahoma tomorrow for the fourth and sixth place game. The Mount Spokane boys playing in the 3A semis as well. They had a bad third quarter outscored by Rainier Beach 21 to 10 and they lose 5350 to Rainier beach in the 3A semifinals.

Mount Spokane will play Seattle Prep tomorrow in the game for third and fifth place. Auburn will be the opponent for Rainier beach in the 3A boys championship and then on the girls end of things, Meade rallies at the end cannot get the game winning shot though they fall to Lake Washington 4241 here this evening. Meade will play the loser of this game coming up between Garfield and Arlington tomorrow in the third place game and Lake Washington will play the winner of this game for the 3A state title.
